Jose Mourinho and Cristiano Ronaldo to Barcelona Rumours Rubbished
Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta has dismissed reports claiming that he met with super agent Jorge Mendes to discuss the possibility of Jose Mourinho taking over as manager at the Camp Nou.
Should former president Laporta be re-elected, he would have considerable sway over appointments. However, speaking with Spanish newspaper L'Esportiu (h/t Marca), Laporta insists The Special One doesn't fit his profile: "My kind of coach is in the [Johan] Cruyff mould. Mou is a good professional and I respect him, but I didn't talk about him with Jorge Mendes, whom I've been good friends with for many years and I discuss things with once in a while. We didn't speak about Jose."

It's apt that the 52-year-old should mention Johan Cruyff's ideology, given that it was the former Barca boss who came out just days earlier in disbelief of reports linking Mourinho to the position, per Marca (h/t ESPN FC): "I don't lend much credence to it, these are just comments. If you give an opinion about something you know nothing about, then that means nothing. Sport is a game of many possibilities, but in this case, this one is not very probable. I can't imagine that Laporta would bring 'Mou' or Cristiano."

Mendes acts as agent for Mourinho, but it's also reported by ESPN FC that Laporta would attempt to bring in another of the Portuguese's clients, Cristiano Ronaldo, if voted back into the presidential seat.
Laporta makes no mention of those particular rumours, but it would be even more difficult to envision Real Madrid's contracted talisman making such a switch.

Mourinho is currently enjoying his second spell at Stamford Bridge, leading the Blues into a firm lead at the summit of the Premier League and going strong in their Champions League campaign.
The helmsman previously spent four years as assistant manager to Sir Bobby Robson with Barca, with @Messi10Stats posting footage of Mourinho professing his love for the club prior to his 2000 departure:
"Today, Tomorrow , and always Barca in my heart - Jose Mourinho http://t.co/wXDBRjQ8Cy
— Leo Messi (@messi10stats) November 12, 2014"
The landscape has changed since then, however, and Spanish journalist Sergi Dominguez claims the two parties will never be reunited:
SPORT recently released findings from a survey intended to forecast voting intentions of Barcelona club members, which indicate that Laporta boasts a 33.8 percent share of votes. Rivals Agusti Benedito and Josep Maria Bartomeu accounted for 23.9 percent and 17.9 percent, respectively.
Mourinho may be open to the idea of a Barcelona return in years to come, but it seems unlikely to materialise in the near future.
