Las Vegas Marathon 2014 Results: Men's and Women's Top Finishers

Joseph ZuckerNov 16, 2014

Ben Bruce made it a perfect five for five this year, taking home Sunday's 2014 Rock ’n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon. The Flagstaff, Arizona, native won with a final time of two hours, 27 minutes and 22 seconds.

Bruce managed to stay focused despite passing countless landmarks as he snaked through downtown Las Vegas. Between the evening sky and the bright lights of the Vegas casinos, the event created some impressive visuals:

The 32-year-old took home the victory with relative ease. Bartosz Olszewski finished in second place in 2:30:31. The two runners hovered near the top of the pack right from the start, with Olszewski leading at the halfway mark. But Bruce eventually got out in front, and once there, he wasn't ceding any ground.

Bruce entered Sunday on a four-race winning streak. According to Todd Dewey of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Sunday's marathon was Bruce's third in the space of 50 days.

"I wanted to keep that streak alive, and as I get older, it's fun to test your body a little bit different," Bruce said before the race. "Nobody would think to do a marathon and steeplechase in the same month. I definitely was not at my best in the championships. Most of it was from lack of sleep from having the baby. Tenth is not all that bad, all things considered."

After the race, Bruce tweeted out that he was having some trouble maintaining a brisk pace over the final stretch:

However, Bruce's wife, Stephanie Rothstein Bruce, snapped a photo of her husband crossing the finish line, and he looked like he savored every moment:

Bruce's goal is to compete for the United States steeplechase team at the 2016 Olympics. While qualifying is still a ways off, he's got to feel good about his chances after a fifth Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series win.

The top 10 finishers from both the men's and women's marathons are listed below.

On the women's side, Cathy Cullen reigned supreme. She finished a whole nine minutes ahead of Nuta Olaru in what was a dominating victory. The Winnipeg native could've pitched a tent and built a base camp.

Olaru got out to a hot start, leading after 5,000 and 10,000 meters. Cullen grabbed a slim 11-second advantage at the halfway mark. From there, the distance between the two only grew. After 20,000 meters, Cullen was ahead by 5:33, and Olaru fell farther back.

Cullen was the only female runner to set a pace under seven minutes a mile. She was at a blinding 6:45 clip by the time she crossed the line.

The marathons capped off a full day of racing in "Sin City." Sunday featured both a half-marathon and a half-of-the-half-marathon. You can view the top 10s from Sunday's other events below.
