Allen Bailey, Chiefs Agree to New Contract: Latest Details, Analysis, Reaction

The Kansas City Chiefs have locked down defensive end Allen Bailey on a new four-year contract worth a reported $25 million.

The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Saturday that the team has signed defensive end Allen Bailey to a contract extension. Terms of the contract will not be released by the club.

“We are happy that we were able to reach an agreement to keep Allen in Kansas City,” Chiefs General Manager John Dorsey said. “He has developed into a good football player and a key member of our defense.

NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk reported the early numbers on Bailey's deal:

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network added that $15 million of the deal is guaranteed, including a $10 million signing bonus. The contract runs through the 2018 season.

The 2011 third-round draft pick probably didn't start the season expecting a big payday in the middle of the year. He entered 2014 with only four career starts in 41 games, but he became the full-time starter at defensive end this season.

Bailey hasn't been a starter for long, but the Chiefs obviously like what they see, as Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports noted:

Bailey immediately took off after starting on a defense that sorely needs the production. Derrick Johnson and Mike DeVito both suffered season-ending injuries back in Week 1, but Bailey has helped to fill the void. Four of his six career sacks have come this season.

No team has given up less passing yards so far in 2014 than the Chiefs, and that is in part due to Bailey's impact as a pass-rusher. Chiefs fans can expect him to continue breaking out now that his wallet is well taken care of.
