Victor Valdes Yet to Sign Despite David de Gea Injury

David de Gea could miss an extended period of time with a dislocated finger, but as reported by The Telegraph's Mark Ogden, United have yet to sign free agent Victor Valdes as insurance for Anders Lindegaard, who is now in line to start.

The former Barcelona man has been training with the club to aid his recovery from a devastating knee injury, and he took to Twitter to inform the world he's almost ready to return:

His fitness is still a major question mark, however, and Louis van Gaal is yet to offer him a contract as a result, per Ogden:

"

The 32-year-old could be registered by United in time for the trip to the Emirates should the club secure permission from the Premier League board to add the Spaniard to their league squad.

But despite Valdes tweeting this week that he is ‘almost ready’ to return to action after beginning to train at United, it is understood that he is still some distance from being fit to play at a competitive level.

[...]No decision has yet been made by United over the possibility of a longer term arrangement with Valdes, so Van Gaal is expected to favour Lindegaard over current third-choice goalkeeper Ben Amos at Arsenal if De Gea is ruled out by his injury.

"

The extent of De Gea's injury is still unclear, but PhysioRoom.com believe he could miss several weeks of action:

Valdes' fate is likely tied to De Gea's injury: If the current United No. 1 is forced to miss multiple matches, Van Gaal could opt to sign the experienced Valdes to make sure he has a trustworthy backup in case anything happens to Lindegaard.

De Gea should be back by the time Valdes is ready for full-time duty, however, so the veteran will likely have to earn his contract the hard way.

No Suitors for Anderson

The Red Devils are allowing Anderson to depart the club in January despite his contract running through the 2014-15 season, but ESPN FC's Andy Mitten knows there are currently no clubs interested in taking his contract off United's hands:

"

The Brazilian midfielder receives a first-team salary of 60,000 pounds per week on a contract that expires in June 2015, but he's played just once as substitute in the league this season and isn't set to feature for United again. The club will happily offload the 26-year-old for free, but there are no suitors given his huge wages.

"

The midfielder reportedly favours a return to his native Brazil, and with the South American nation going through a recession, clubs are not willing to pay the 26-year-old's substantial wages.

Anderson joined the club in 2007 from Porto amid much fanfare but never delivered on the potential he flashed in Portugal, and he quickly became a target used to mock the Red Devils by rival fans.

In a way, the news the club can't offload his wages because nobody is interested truly is a fitting end to a disappointing career in the Premier League. Free to sign with any club once his contract runs out in June, a return to Gremio seems likely.

David de Gea to Snub United, Push for Real Madrid?

Metro are at it again, citing Spanish reports claiming De Gea will turn down United's improved contract offer in order to force a transfer to Real Madrid:

"

De Gea has emerged as a top target for Madrid in the last few days, with the Spanish club looking for a quality replacement for Iker Casillas.

United had counter-balanced the interest by offering the glovesman a new contract, but reports say De Gea has snubbed it and is now closing in on a switch to Madrid.

The Red Devils are desperate not to sell but Madrid are now confident they can wrap up a deal quickly.

"

The transfer saga surrounding De Gea has shifted gear in recent weeks, often an indication a player may indeed be looking for a permanent switch. In the case of De Gea, however, things are a little different.

Metro cites Fichajes.net as their source, and this Spanish website appears to be the driving force behind these rumours. As reported by 101 Great Goals' Dov Rawson, they were also the ones claiming Valdes would replace De Gea as the starter in Manchester earlier this week.

Fichajes are often the source of outlandish transfer rumours and certain British newspapers are more than keen to use the site as a reliable Spanish source, as outlined by FIFA.com's Jack Rathborn:

Keylor Navas is yet to get his chance in the Spanish capital, and Iker Casillas is getting closer to retirement every day. There's every chance Real will make an official offer for De Gea; Spain's best young stopper and one of the most talented goalkeepers in the world.

But it's far too early in the season to suggest De Gea has turned down a contract offer, particularly in the middle of an international break when he isn't even in Manchester to negotiate. As of right now, it's simply ludicrous to claim otherwise.
