Brock Lesnar Turns Down Fight With Fedor Emelianenko
LOS ANGELES, CA, June 29, 2009—Cameldog MMA has exclusively learned that Brock Lesnar, the current reigning UFC HW Champion and former WWE wrestler, turned down a fight Tuesday with Fedor Emelianenko, who is regarded as the undisputed No. 1 HW in the world and is signed to M-1 Global.
In an exclusive phone interview, Steve Bash (who represents M-1 Global as VP of Legal Affairs and is often seen acting as a translator for Fedor in public) revealed that Lesnar declined to fight Fedor just yesterday.
The interview was conducted after the press conference today, in which Fedor remained non-committal about his future plans but revealed that he would be the "face" of EA'S MMA game.
Bash did not give a reason or indicate whether such a fight were to take place in the UFC or whether Brock was offered a fight with M-1 Global.
Since the UFC's contracts lock its athletes and forbid them from fighting outside the organization, it is unknown on whether Brock ducked Fedor in a potential fight in the UFC or whether M-1 offered a special "Superfight" with Brock outside the confines of the UFC.
Sources from the ongoing discussions between the UFC indicated to us that they (the UFC) were "furiously" trying to get a contract "done" by Friday in time for Dana White's presser regarding Emelianenko, and that placing Fedor VS Brock on UFC 103 was one of the ideas floated around.
