Jozy Altidore Becomes 5th American with 25 International Goals
United States forward Jozy Altidore scored the 25th international goal of his career during Friday's 2-1 friendly loss to Colombia at Craven Cottage, passing Joe-Max Moore for fifth place on his nation's all-time goals list, per ESPN Stats & Info.
Facing the No. 3 team in FIFA's official rankings, Altidore scored his milestone goal on a 10th-minute penalty that was the result of a handball by Colombia defender Pablo Armero.
Altidore hesitated just before striking the ball, and then kicked it over diving Colombia goalkeeper Camilo Vargas to give the United States an early lead.
The lead held up for quite some time, but the U.S. eventually surrendered a pair of second-half goals, first to forward Carlo Bacca in the 60th minute, and then to forward Teofilo Gutierrez in the 87th.
The United States has now allowed a goal in the 86th minute or later in each of its last three games, having previously surrendered late 1-0 leads against both Honduras and Ecuador in friendlies, per ESPN's Paul Carr.
Altidore, meanwhile, finds himself with 25 goals through 75 caps, trailing only Landon Donovan (57 goals), Clint Dempsey (39), Eric Wynalda (34) and Brian McBride (30) on the United States' all-time goals list, per ussoccer.com.
Among the top-20 goalscorers in United States history, Altidore's rate of 0.333 goals per game trails only Donovan's 0.363 and Dempsey's .357.
