2015 Recruits Who Would Benefit Most from a Strong Close to This Season
With most high school programs preparing for the start of the playoffs, a handful of the nation’s top 2015 recruits are preparing for their final games as prep stars before heading off to college.
Some seniors are still fighting to make an impression on colleges in hopes of earning more scholarship offers.
Others are simply looking to rebound from slow starts and close their prep careers on a high note.
Which recruits in the 2015 class would benefit the most from a strong close to the season?
*Players listed in alphabetical order.
Cordell Broadus
1 of 5Even before he transferred to Las Vegas powerhouse Bishop Gorman in the offseason, 4-star wideout Cordell Broadus was a household name in recruiting circles.
The 6'2", 195-pounder has scholarship offers from powers across the country such as Florida State, LSU, Notre Dame, UCLA and USC.
Broadus is part of a loaded Gaels squad that is ranked No. 1 in the country, according to USA Today.
Despite limited touches, he’s managed to showcase his explosiveness by averaging nearly 16 yards per catch this year and scoring on eight of his 28 receptions, per MaxPreps.
However, with the playoffs around the corner, getting Broadus more touches may be a part of the recipe that helps the Gaels capture another state title.
Tyrek Cole
2 of 5Perhaps like no other recruit in the 2015 cycle, 4-star corner Tyrek Cole has endured a roller coaster during his senior season.
On Sept. 22, Cole decommitted from Florida State and pledged to West Virginia.
One day later, he was suspended indefinitely from his Miramar (Florida) High School team indefinitely for an unspecified violation of team rules, according to Adam Krohn of Rivals.com.
Cole returned to the team in early October, but he's struggled to make an impact, as evidenced by a limited body of work, per Chris Anderson of EerSports (subscription required).
He has a few games under his belt heading into the playoffs, and a dominant performance or two would help him to re-establish him as one of the premier corners in the 2015 class.
Torrance Gibson
3 of 5There’s no doubt that 4-star athlete Torrance Gibson is one of the nation’s most explosive talents in the 2015 class.
The recent Ohio State commitment has accounted for more than 2,000 yards of total offense and 23 touchdowns through 10 games this season, per MaxPreps.
However, he’s struggled at times as a passer this year, as he’s completed less than 48 percent of his passes on the year.
Considering that he has been adamant about his desire to be a passer on the next level, Gibson has an opportunity to end his prep career on a high note if he can lead his team to another deep playoff run.
Jeffery Holland
4 of 5Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville, Florida, is home to a program stocked with a number of big-time prospects destined to land at power-five schools.
Included in that group is 4-star linebacker Jeffery Holland. The 6'2", 232-pounder is being courted by powers such as Auburn and Florida.
Holland has played both ways this season, logging snaps at running back and even receiver in addition to playing linebacker.
Perhaps due to his increased workload, his numbers at linebacker—where he’s projected to land on the next level—haven’t been overwhelming.
According to MaxPreps, Holland has recorded only 16 tackles through eight games this season.
With Trinity gearing up for a run at another state title, Holland has a chance to put an exclamation point on his prep career with a strong finish to his senior campaign.
Travis Waller
5 of 5The state of California is loaded with a bevy of top-flight passers in the 2015 class.
Included in that mix is 4-star dual-threat quarterback Travis Waller.
The 6'3", 190-pounder—who is committed to Oregon—has had a solid season to date. Heading into the playoffs, Waller has thrown for 1,416 yards with 13 touchdowns and added another 776 yards with 11 scores on the ground, according to MaxPreps.
However, his team—Servite High School in Anaheim—went 4-6 in the regular season, with two of those losses coming by a combined eight points.
With a clean slate in the postseason, Waller would love to lead his team to a deep playoff run that would eliminate any lingering frustrations from a disappointing regular season.
