Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Alonso, 24, tore the ACL in his left knee in July while working out in Oregon. The former Ducks standout, who was a breakout star as a rookie, has been rehabbing his injury since with designs on coming back in 2015.
“My knee feels great,” Alonso told Chris Brown of the Bills' official website in October. “It definitely doesn’t feel like there’s anything wrong with it. It’s just a matter of time. You’ve got to let that ligament heal and strengthen the muscles around it. It feels probably where it should be right now.”
Selected in the second round (No. 46 overall) in the 2013 draft, Alonso made 159 total tackles and had four interceptions as a rookie. He lost the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Year award to Jets defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson, though many felt Alonso should've been given the honor. The Pro Football Writers Association of America chose Alonso over Richardson.
The Bills' defense has not missed many beats in 2014. They're currently ranked fourth in Football Outsiders' DVOA metric, including a top overall mark against the pass.
