In-Form Edinson Cavani's PSG Future Remains Unclear
Edinson Cavani's fifth goal in five games helped Paris Saint-Germain to a 2-0 win in Le Classique against Marseille on Sunday night. His second-half header continued a great run of form for the Uruguayan striker.
Cavani has stepped up to the plate in recent weeks, in the absence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, to fire Laurent Blanc’s side to within a point of league leaders L’OM. He has also been instrumental in PSG’s progression to the last 16 of the Champions League, netting three in four group games including a rapid opener against APOEL Nicosia.
However, despite this fine run of form, Cavani’s future in the French capital is far from certain. It seems that the good run he has put together recently has not been displayed readily enough to justify the Paris club's hefty investment.

He has never quite rediscovered the form of his 2012/13 campaign, when he bagged 29 goals, as per ESPN, to finish as Serie A’s top marksman, as Napoli came second in the race for the Scudetto.
Before he went on his run of five in five, he was under considerable pressure. It seems even his current goalscoring streak won’t be enough to stop him heading out the exit door at the Parc des Princes in the near future.
Speaking on the Guardian’s podcast Football Weekly, French football expert Philippe Auclair claimed Cavani could be moved on, as PSG look to cash in due to Financial Fair Play rules.
Such cashing in is necessary, as Auclair goes on to state, for the purchase of Premier League big hitters such as Eden Hazard and Yaya Toure, both of whom he suggests are high on the wanted list in Paris. Any move for such expensive imports would be entirely dependent on the export of some high-profile squad members.
The return to side of Ibrahimovic in their important win over Marseille seems only to have further strengthened such claims. Cavani will likely again be moved into a wider position to accommodate the return of PSG’s undisputed talisman.
It was also clear during the weekend’s victory that Cavani and Ibra remain on different wavelengths. The Swede blatantly ignored opportunities to involve his teammate in PSG’s build-up play following his second-half introduction. There will only be one likely winner should either have to move on.

If Cavani was to be available, there would almost certainly be interest from across Europe in the Copa America winner. Premier League clubs could be among those looking to bid for the striker, some of whom were linked with the player before his move to the French capital, per the Mirror.
It would be unlikely any club would be willing to part with the kind of transfer fee Les Parisians forked out for him, but he would still command a hefty fee; a fee which could still tempt many in the near future.
One thing that is clear is that all is not rosy in the city of love for El Matador.
