5 Borussia Dortmund Players to Watch During November International Break

Stefan BienkowskiNov 11, 2014

Jurgen Klopp may spend the next two weeks under a collection of video tapes and tactics boards as he hopes to continue Borussia Dortmund's turn in form, but unfortunately for him, his best players will be preoccupied with international duty for their respective nations.

The club may still only hover above the relegation spots in the Bundesliga table, but few squads around the world can boast to have the amount of talent that the black and yellows currently have playing for them.

As such, allow us to take a moment and pick out some of the best players at Dortmund and how they'll likely feature in the next few weeks of international fixtures.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Perhaps the most obvious player to consider for such a list is Armenian midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Dortmund's latest playmaker extraordinaire and arguably the greatest player this European nation has ever produced.

Yet Mkhitaryan's side face a daunting task this Friday when they travel to Portugal in the hope of turning around their Group I qualification campaign for 2016's European Championships in France.

Having lost to Denmark in the opening game with a goal from the Dortmund star, they then drew with Serbia 1-1, leaving them with just one point from two games and bottom of the group.

As such, all eyes will be on the attacking midfielder to lead his nation through such a tough test.

Milos Jojic

Although he's not yet confirmed himself as a regular for the first team, with only three appearances since his debut in October of last year, Serbian international Milos Jojic will be flying the Dortmund flag when his nation take on Denmark on Friday.

The 22-year-old has still got a lot to prove for his nation, a situation that isn't too dissimilar to his role at Dortmund this season, and will be hopeful of any inclusion against the Group I leaders.

Yet Jojic is a player with talent, and he has shown flashes of brilliance in his short time at Dortmund. If given the chance on Friday, he may well shine and offer a way past a very stubborn Denmark side.

Ciro Immobile

3 of 5

Ciro Immobile may still be fighting for a starting spot at the Westfalenstadion every week, yet the tricky forward has finally found a foothold in the Italian national team and is making good ground on that front.

The 24-year-old has started each of Italy's three opening games in Group H, with one goal to his name already, as his nation hope to make quick work of qualification with three wins from three.

Yet this Sunday they take on Croatia, the clear rivals to Group H's top spot, meaning Immobile will be up against it. Here the forward will have to thrive against tougher opponents, with his coach, Antonio Conte, hoping he can put the goals away like he has done in this season's Champions League.

Marco Reus

4 of 5

At first, Marco Reus' return to international duty will seem a little odd. On Friday, Germany take on European minnows Gibraltar with every hope of claiming a strong victory and all three points from their last competitive match of 2014.

Yet the game that follows, a friendly fixture against Spain, should offer more interest and ultimately more experience for the Dortmund star as he does his best to break through one of world football's great national teams.

Joachim Low's side have struggled up front since Miroslav Klose's retirement and will undoubtedly welcome back Reus' free-scoring style of play with open arms.

Lukasz Piszczek

5 of 5

In the very same group to Germany and teammate Reus, right-back Lukasz Piszczek will do his best to guide Poland to a win over Georgia in one of Group D's trickiest away ties.

The group itself couldn't be tighter, with Poland sitting top alongside Ireland with seven points, while Germany and Scotland follow in close pursuit on four points apiece. Making this match against Georgia a must-win for the Poles.

Piszczek has, as expected, been a real driving force down the right-hand side of Poland's attack, and just as he does at Dortmund each week, he posed a threat with his deep crosses and excellent dribbling. Alongside former teammate Robert Lewandowski, this full-back is undoubtedly one of Poland's most important players.
