Milan Transfer News and Rumours Tracker: Week of November 10
There aren't many photos of Marco van Ginkel in the red-and-black of AC Milan; he has hardly played.
The 21-year-old dealt with an ankle injury for a portion of the early season, but for the most part he has sat on the bench without much to do.
On Saturday, he was about to come on as a late substitute, but even then he was forced to put his jacket back on.
Earlier in the week, there were reports that Van Ginkel could return to Chelsea in January since the Dutchman was not getting the playing time he came for. But his agent later dismissed that. And now that Nigel de Jong has injured his hamstring, there is a chance Van Ginkel could play—in the Derby della Madonnina with Inter, no less.
Let's take a look at this week's rumours.
Van Ginkel Staying Put
1 of 2
Van Ginkel is going nowhere. His agent, Karel Jansen, told Calciomercato.it (h/t Football Italia) that his client will remain with the Rossoneri.
Earlier in the week, Jansen was quoted as saying on Fox Sports (h/t Football Italia) that Van Ginkel "didn’t come to Milan to sit on the bench," effectively warning Milan. But those were words apparently fabricated.
"Things are proceeding according to plan and there are no promises that haven’t been kept," said the agent. "Inzaghi does his work and we have no intention of interfering with his choices."
Van Ginkel has only played 30 minutes for Milan, excluding a friendly with San Lorenzo.
Milan In for McCarthy?
2 of 2
It's clear that Milan are looking for a defensive midfielder to sign in the January transfer window, but this latest rumour is a bit of surprise.
According to Garry Doolan of the Daily Star, Milan have pegged 23-year-old Everton midfielder James McCarthy as a possible foil for Nigel de Jong.
McCarthy starts consistently for Everton, but talks over a new deal have stalled. Manchester United are "longtime admirers," but both Milan clubs are apparently "monitoring the situation."
McCarthy moved to Everton from Wigan in a £13 million deal last summer.
Coach Pippo Inzaghi is also looking at Real Madrid's Asier Illarramendi, according to Doolan.
