UFC Middleweight Champ Chris Weidman: 'Nobody's Beating Me at 185'

Hunter HomistekNov 7, 2014

Chris Weidman seems to be settling in nicely as the UFC's middleweight king.

The champ currently has a matchup against Vitor Belfort on the horizon at UFC 184 in February, but in his eyes, his future is already set. Nobody's taking him down at middleweight.

During a recent media event in Sydney ahead of UFC Fight Night 55, Weidman made this sentiment perfectly clear, per MMAFighting.com:

Weidman, who is undefeated as a professional mixed martial artist at 12-0, has been nothing short of stellar during his UFC run.

He's finished Anderson "The Spider" Silva twice, and he took everything former light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida had to offer, firing back with just a little more ammo to snatch the unanimous-decision victory in July.

Because of these victories (and the nine that came before them), Weidman's fighting skills are well-known. Now, however, he's adding some trash-talking to the mix, slowly priming himself to become one of the promotion's biggest stars.

Talking about his upcoming opponent, Belfort, Weidman fired off a zinger during the press conference in Sydney.

When asked how he was preparing for Belfort's attack, Weidman did not hold back, taking a shot at Belfort's checkered history with performance-enhancing drugs, again via MMAFighting.com:

Once he clears out his division—something he acknowledged will not happen for a while because of the excellent crop of middleweights on the UFC's roster—Weidman knows what his next move will be. He'll take his talents to 205, where he'll take on the likes of Anthony "Rumble" Johnson, Alexander Gustafsson and, perhaps, UFC megastar Jon Jones:

Of course, none of this will matter if Weidman cannot back up his words against Belfort in February. If he does, though, we might have the next Jones on our hands.
