Golfer Patrick Reed Has Obscene Outburst at WGC-HSBC Champions
American golfer Patrick Reed faces punishment from the PGA Tour after an outburst at the WGC-HSBC Champions tournament in Shanghai, China that included obscenities and homophobic language.
A report from The Independent states poor putting on his 10th hole of the day caused him to lash out at himself and it was caught on camera.
"Nice f****** three-putt you f****** f****t," Reed said.
He finished the day with a 1-under par 71, four strokes off the pace of leader Graeme McDowell. Now he can expect to hear from the PGA Tour.
Reed later apologized for the outburst via his Twitter account:
Ryan Lavner of the Golf Channel passed along a statement from the organization, which noted the issue would be handled internally.
"The PGA Tour Conduct Unbecoming regulations prohibit the use of obscene language on the golf course. The PGA Tour will deal with this matter internally in accordance with its regulations," the statement read.
The 24-year-old rising star, who represented the United States at the 2014 Ryder Cup, already has three career wins under his belt and the talent to win majors. He's also been known to run a little hot when things aren't falling his way, though.
This is an unfortunate example of that. Hopefully it's a learning experience for Reed, who is seemingly set to receive a clear message from the PGA Tour.
