Santa Barbara Marathon 2014: Route, Course Map, Times, Event Details
The Santa Barbara Marathon has become one of the most entertaining events during the marathon season. It may not earn the same coverage as other notable races, but the sixth annual running promises to be another grueling day for racers.
Tabbed as the Veterans Day Marathon and a half marathon as well, darting through Santa Barbara, it offers runners one of the most pleasing routes in the country. The trail leads through multiple elevations as several racers attempt to take down records.
On the men's side, Moninda Marube of Kenya set the record with a time of 2:22:29 back in 2011. Meanwhile, the women's mark was set last year by Finland's Elisa Karhu at 2:42:45.
Before the race gets underway, here's a look at the event details along with a breakdown of the Santa Barbara Marathon. A full route and course map can be found at SBMarathon.com.

Race Breakdown
For the sixth year in a row, the marathon will navigate through a majestic route that includes a scenic path along the Pacific Ocean. Regardless of whether racers are looking to post a great time or simply beat a personal best, the trail offers them something most other marathons simply cannot.
Not only does it offer great views but a memorable last mile on the path. In what's called "The Veterans Final Mile," runners will be able to race through a beautiful scene at the end.
Volunteer Bill Rupp explained what the final mile will look like on race day, per Christina Markos of Presidio Sports: "There will be a flyover of WWII-era planes at the beginning of the race. A WWII jeep is the lead vehicle for the marathon, and the final mile along Shoreline Drive, which is the Veterans Mile, will be lined with American flags. The marathon is also part of other local Veterans Day activities."
Along with being able to compete in beautiful Santa Barbara, runners also have a chance to qualify for the Boston Marathon. Just 163 days prior to the historic race, the potential for qualifying gives marathon-goers yet another reason to put down a great time.
Then, there are those who will be looking to break not only the race record but a world record. Dennis Kimetto recently set the overall record, as the SB Marathon's official Twitter account notes:
Some racers hope to dash records and others simply want to finish and take in the scenery of Santa Barbara. No matter the reason, racers will take to the path Saturday in search of completing yet another memorable run on the outskirts of the Pacific Ocean.
