The Top 10 Premier League Clubs on Vine

Ryan BaileyOct 24, 2014

As the Premier League continues its growth as a global behemoth, clubs are no longer just competing on the field; they are campaigning for the time, attention and eventual financial support of fans worldwide on social media.

One of the more novel ways to reach fans is Vine, the video site that lets users publish six-second loops of sharable goodness.

All but four of the Premier League's 20 sides are using Vine—here's the 10 who are doing it most successfully.

10. Southampton

As a team who have "#SaintsFC" written on the seats at their home stadium, it's little surprise that Southampton have achieved a top-half finish in the Vine rankings.

They provide regular updates from the training ground and away days with the team, and on their recent trip to Tottenham Hotspur, they gave us an interesting glimpse at the military-style timings a team follows before kick-off.

9. West Ham United

West Ham United's Vine team provide plenty of six-second clips on matchdays and they post every few days from the training ground.

You can even experience the fleeting thrill of watching their bus arrive at a stadium

Newcastle United aren't known for being a particularly well run club, which may explain why they haven't posted on their Vine feed for nearly two months.

However, when they do post, fans are treated to fascinating clips like Fabricio Coloccini filling in paperwork

Everton haven't posted on their Vine account since the beginning of August, but they still make the top 10 of Premier League clubs. When they bother to post, the Toffees show U21 and reserve highlights and give a novel tease for their matchday programme.

Everton has less than 78,000 loops, by far the lowest amount of engagement in the top 10.

Tottenham Hotspur put an impressive amount of effort into their Vine feeds, utilising interesting editing and special effects.

Apropos of nothing, here's someone using Hugo Lloris' boots to get a chant rhythm going.

Manchester City have had the best presence of any team on YouTube for several years, and they certainly keep up appearances on Twitter, so it is little surprise that they have a very good Vine game.

They update regularly, organise giveaways for fans and use the medium to reveal their matchday team sheets

4. Liverpool

Another side who slightly neglect their Vine duties are Liverpool, who have only updated their feed three times in the past month.

The Reds use their six-second spotlight for team sheet news and have posted at least three separate versions of the famous walk down the tunnel at Anfield

Manchester United may be considered one of the biggest sports brands in the world, but they only earn a bronze medal in the Twitter and Vine stakes.

The Red Devils aren't the most creative Vine users out there, but they have used it to break news in the past, including the revelation of squad numbers of new players like Angel Di Maria.

2. Arsenal

Chelsea are putting the rest of the Premier League to shame on Vine. Not only do they have nearly 20 per cent more followers than second-place Arsenal, but they boast over 16 million total loops—that's over four times the amount anyone else is getting.

They achieve this high engagement level with a regular array of behind-the-scenes clips and plenty of promotion through Twitter. Plus, it can't hurt to have videos of Jose Mourinho screaming while having cold water poured on him.
