Ben Roethlisberger: How Assault Allegation Could Affect His Career

Shane Quinn Jul 22, 2009

Recently, Ben Roethlisberger has gone through some trouble.

He’s facing a sexual assault allegation related to an incident that reportedly happened about a year ago. The woman who alleges she was sexually assaulted by Roethlisberger said she was fixing his television in his hotel room and then was blocked by Roethlisberger, who then proceeded to force himself on her.

The woman who alleged the assault filed a civil lawsuit against Roethlisberger recently. This case could have an adverse effect on Roethlisberger’s career.

In a civil case, if the defendant is found guilty, he or she can still be a free man. However, in Ben's case, it could be detrimental to his career. If Ben is found guilty, his career could be ruined. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell could possibly suspend Roethlisberger’s football career for good.

Also, if Ben decides to pay off the woman who he allegedly assaulted, it could also be damaging to his career, because it would be saying, “I'm guilty, please take the money and run.”

For Ben, it's a lose-lose for him, because no matter what he does from now, this incident will follow him and haunt his career.

For Ben's sake, I hope he's not guilty. But if there is revealing evidence that he did sexually assault that woman, by all means, I have no remorse or no sympathy for him if he did.

For Ben Roethlisberger right now, my thoughts are innocent until proven guilty.
