Luke Shaw is facing a potential spell on the sidelines after being withdrawn from Manchester United's tussle against Everton on Sunday.

Following the match, Manchester United provided a statement from manager Louis Van Gaal discussing Shaw's injury:

Following the match, the club updated Shaw's status in a statement on its website:

"

Luke Shaw's injury will not prevent him from linking up with the England Under-21 squad ahead of the European Championship play-offs with Croatia.

(...)

'It's not a bad injury, it's a dead leg on my knee,' he explained. 'I felt it in the first 20 minutes when I got caught but it carried on during the game so I thought it was probably best to come off before it gets any worse.

'I spoke with the doctor and obviously the manager as well and both feel it's best that I do go [with the England Under-21s] as it's not an injury that is going to keep me out. Hopefully, I should be training in the next couple of days and can get another two games of 90 minutes each.

'As I said, I've been talking to the manager and we've spoken about it and think it's a great idea for me to go to help out with the Under-21s and get some game-time as well.'

"

The club stated during the game it could be a hamstring injury:

Louis van Gaal has Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind and the returning Tyler Blackett able to fill in at left-back, with Shaw's own bounce back to fitness ending prematurely.
