Ranking the 10 Best Golazos from World Football This Weekend
Italy has a decades-old reputation for beautiful football, and Serie A didn't fail to disappoint in the golazo department over the weekend. Milan, Fiorentina and Juventus all offered world-class calcio and some impressive goals.
Elsewhere in the weekend rankings, there are efforts from England, Spain, Germany, Ireland and the USA...
10. Ross Wallace (Burnley) vs. Leicester
1 of 10
The King Power Stadium hosted a potential relegation six-pointer between Leicester and Burnley on Saturday, but it ended honours even thanks to a dramatic 96th-minute equaliser from Ross Wallace.
The Foxes were 2-1 up deep in injury time when Burnley earned a free kick on the edge of the box when substitute Matty James conceded a foul. Wallace duly curled the ball into the top corner to earn Burnley their fourth draw of the campaign.
9. Robbie Keane (LA Galaxy) vs. Toronto
2 of 10LA Galaxy remained at the top of the MLS Western Conference table on goal difference on Saturday thanks to a 3-0 win over Toronto.
Robbie Keane scored the Californian side's first two goals of the evening, the second of which was an excellent right-footed volley.
The Irishman's effort was aided by the Toronto defence, which appeared happy to offer him acres of space in the middle of the box.
8. Haris Medunjanin (Deportivo) vs. Sevilla
3 of 10Deportivo La Coruna crashed to a 4-1 defeat at Sevilla on Sunday but earned a beautiful consolation from a dead-ball situation.
In the 31st minute, Haris Medunjanin—the man known as "The Bosnian Magician"—launched an inch-perfect free kick into the top left corner.
Sevilla goalkeeper Beto didn't even make an attempt to stop the ball, perhaps because of the misleading swerve that the reverse angle shows.
7. Dylan Connolly (Shelbourne) vs. Galway United
4 of 10Shelbourne hosted fellow Irish First Division contenders Galway on Friday night in a match that finished 1-1.
The scoring was opened in the 21st minute by Shelbourne's Dylan Connolly, who punished Galway's defenders for failing to clear their lines with a lovely effort that crept in via the crossbar.
6. Sergio Aguero (Manchester City) vs. Aston Villa
5 of 10
Manchester City left it late at Aston Villa, scoring the only two goals of the game at Villa Park in the final 10 minutes.
After Yaya Toure's tidy effort, Sergio Aguero was picked out by James Milner in plenty of space, which allowed him to fire an unstoppable drive past Brad Guzan from the edge of the box.
5. Sulley Muntari (Milan) vs. Chievo
6 of 10Milan overcame Chievo at the San Siro on Saturday with two unanswered goals from Sulley Muntari and Keisuke Honda.
Muntari's strike came in the 55th minute, when he picked up an attempted clearance on the edge of the area and powerfully half-volleyed it past Chievo goalkeeper Francesco Bardi.
Honda doubled the Rossoneri's advantage with a very nice free kick.
4. Khouma Babacar (Fiorentina) vs. Internazionale
7 of 10Fiorentina climbed above Internazionale in the Serie A standings with a convincing 3-0 win on Sunday.
The best goal of the afternoon came in the seventh minute, when Senegalese striker Khouma Babacar picked up the ball on the right flank and unleashed an unstoppable drive into the top-left corner.
Twelve minutes later, Juan Cuadrado doubled the Viola's lead with an equally impressive long-distance strike.
3. Leonardi Bonucci (Juventus) vs. Roma
8 of 10The top-of-the-table clash between Juventus and Roma delivered just about everything you could hope for: three first-half penalties, two red cards, multiple fights, plenty of controversy and a superb, dramatic late winner.
With the score level at 2-2 after a frantic 86 minutes in Turin, Leonardo Bonucci was waiting on the edge of the area when an attempted clearance fell to him. The Juve defender struck a fantastic volley to help his side maintain their 100 percent record at the top of Serie A.
2. Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich) vs. Hannover
9 of 10Bayern Munich remained at the top of the Bundesliga on Saturday with a 4-0 decimation of Hannover.
Xabi Alonso nearly scored a Bobby Dazzler from inside his own half, but the best goal of the day came in the 38th minute.
Xherdan Shaqiri launched a long ball to Robert Lewandowski, who controlled it with a sublime touch and proceeded to slot a right-footed shot past the goalkeeper.
1. Saul (Eibar) vs. Levante
10 of 10
Eibar split the points with Levante on Saturday afternoon with a thrilling 3-3 draw at the Estadio Municipal de Ipurua.
Eibar went into the break 2-0 down but fought back to 2-2 in the 70th minute with a stunning strike from Saul Berjon.
The midfielder met a Javi Lara free kick with the kind of powerful volley that he will probably never better.
Surely, there can be little debate that this was the best goal of the weekend.
