PSG may have been without Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but on Tuesday, that didn't stop them from beating La Liga leaders Barcelona. David Luiz, Marco Verratti and Blaise Matuidi all found the back of the net for the hosts, cancelling out strikes from Lionel Messi and Neymar for the Blaugrana.
After a difficult start to the Ligue 1 season, manager Laurent Blanc was understandably excited with the win, via beIN Sports:
"It was a great match, a great win. We needed the points. The players were more focused and motivated than usual - all the ingredients were there for a great performance, but we still had to go out there and do it.
I was convinced the team hadn't lost all its virtues. The most important thing for me tonight was to show that we are still a team.
"
Coupled with APOEL Nicosia's surprise 1-1 draw against Ajax, the result from Paris blew Group F wide open. All four teams sit within three points of each other, setting the table for a dramatic finish.
Nemanja Matic scored the only goal in Chelsea's 1-0 win over Sporting Lisbon in the first half, and with Schalke 04 only managing a draw against Maribor, the Blues are now strong favourites to qualify from Group G.
Jan Aage Fjortoft believes Schalke's result was right in line with how the season has played out so far for the Germans:
AS Roma have enjoyed an excellent start to the 2014-15 season and showed no fear at the Etihad on Tuesday, coming away with a deserved 1-1 draw against Manchester City.
The Citizens have collected just one point from their first two matches, and good results in the doubleheader with CSKA Moscow is now a must for Manuel Pellegrini's squad.
Totti stole the show with his equaliser, becoming the oldest scorer in the competition's history. As shared by Guardian Sport, City made the mistake of giving him some added motivation:
On Wednesday, Arsenal dominated Galatasaray to win 4-1, and Danny Welbeck stole the show with his very first career hat-trick. Alexis Sanchez also added a goal late in the first half, while Burak Yilmaz was able to get on the board from the spot after Wojciech Szczesny conceded a penalty.
As shared by Squawka, fans must hope the England international doesn't follow in the footsteps of the last man to score three in a Champions League fixture for the club:
Basel's dominance over English clubs continued with a 1-0 win against Liverpool, their fourth straight against a Premier League side, per OptaFranz:
Marco Streller scored the only goal of the match from a set piece, which is quickly turning into the Reds' Achilles heel. Brendan Rodgers' squad disappointed tremendously in Switzerland, and they'll be looking to bounce back when they take on West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
Ludogorets presented holders Real Madrid with a surprising challenge but were undone by a goal from Karim Benzema in the second half, losing 2-1. The Bulgarian side had taken the lead through Marcelinho and appeared to have luck on their side when Cristiano Ronaldo missed a penalty just minutes later.
The Portuguese star redeemed himself when Los Blancos were given a second penalty (for a blatant dive from Ronaldo), and Benzema's late goal means Real will go into their doubleheader against Liverpool leading Group B.
