NBA Las Vegas Summer League: Vol, 6
(Anthony Morrow was huge.)
Adam Morrison sat out with the flu on Thursday night, which was probably a good thing. He didn't have to take the court and see his team get blow-out by the Rockets.
Then again, he may have been in attendance.
Regardless, there were plenty of jaw-dropping performances to get excited about, while several other players stayed the course, dropping in quality efforts.
It's getting down to the wire, with only three days of games remaining, and some of these guys will have to really impress to get an invite to their respective team's training camp.
Joe Alexander, F, Milwaukee Bucks
Alexander has been quite solid throughout the summer league, despite at times struggling to find his rhythm in his stroke.
He's still a player who can take over offensively, and can really get after the boards. He has some work to do yet, defensively, but the athleticism and potential is there.
Final line: 19 Pts, 8 Reb, 4 Ast
Jodie Meeks, SG, Milwaukee Bucks
Easily Milwaukee's star of the day.
Meeks continues to show his ability to shoot well and score the ball, while also showing he is more than just a capable defender.
Final line: 29 Pts, 4 Reb
DeMar DeRozan, SG, Toronto Taptors
DeRozan is another one of those guys that you're just sick of hearing about-because he keeps dropping in solid performances.
We know he's athletic and aggressive. The question is, does that translate into serious minutes right away? The answer is arguably "no".
Final line: 20 Pts, 6 Reb, 3 Ast
Quincy Douby, G, Toronto Raptors
In the last report, I noted that Douby should stick on just about any team, due to his offensive abilities. While I stand by that, and it is justified by his fifth straight 16+ point game, his seven assists on Thursday showed his passing ability is improving.
He's not a bad point guard prospect, but he's simply a shoot-first guy. Why take him out of his element?
Final line: 17 Pts, 7 Ast, 4 Reb
Chase Budinger, G/F, Houston Rockets
I feel like a broken record, but Budinger's performances are leaving me feeling empty.
He's obviously a good shooter and a skilled offensive player, but he needs to be able to muster up more than one rebound and/or assist in games.
Just shooting the ball well won't get him major minutes at the next level.
Final line: 25 Pts
Joey Dorsey, PF/C, Houston Rockets
Dorsey has been an absolute beast on the boards for the entire summer league, posting over 10 in every single game he's played.
However, it wasn't until Thursday's action that he put consistent offense with his glass-cleaning.
Final line: 11 Pts, 20 Reb, 5 Ast, 3 Stl, 2 BS
Marcus Thornton, SG, New Orleans Hornets
Thornton continues to show his ability to score the ball, despite only going 6-14 from the field.
He's an athletic guard with Dwayne Wade-type abilities, but not nearly as athletic.
Final line: 21 Pts, 3 Reb
Player of the Day: Anthony Morrow, G, Golden State Warriors
Morrow showed glimpses of being special in last year's summer league, and also played some solid minutes during the regular season.
His huge scoring out-burst once again displayed his star-like ability, and his knack for affecting several parts of the game.
Final line: 47 Pts, 7 Reb
DeJuan Blair, PF, San Antonio Spurs
Blair was decent in his debut, but showed he can bang with the big boys down low in his second game.
He's just very efficient around the basket, and works hard on defense. San Antonio couldn't ask for anything more.
Final line: 20 Pts, 5 Reb
George Hill, G, San Antonio Spurs
Hill poured in 20 points, and also showed-off his passing ability, by chipping in with an impressive nine assists.
He's already basically guaranteed a spot on the roster. At this point, he's just showing off.
Final line: 20 Pts, 9 Ast, 5 Reb, 3 Stl
Blake Griffin, PF, Los Angeles Clippers
Griffin wasn't overly dominant, but you can't expect 20 and 10 every night.
However, with the way he plays, you can expect pretty darn close to it.
Final line: 18 pts, 15 Reb, 5 Ast
Marcus Williams, PG, Memphis Grizzlies
After Williams ripped off 17 assists in his summer league debut, he cooled off in game two for 16 points, while settling for five assists.
Still, he's been consistent, while picking up the offensive slack, and getting to the line 20 times in game three.
Final line: 22 Pts, 5 Ast, 4 Reb
