Weather: AccuWeather.com predicts some doom and gloom weather for the match. Thunderstorms and rain are forecast for the early evening and heading into the latter parts of the night. It could very well be that this ends up being a truncated match.
Overview
Despite having their campaign marred by rain, Chennai are still in a pretty strong position to progress to the next round of the competition. Chennai's most recent outing saw their game washed out without a ball being bowled and there is more rain forecast for their match against Perth.
A washout will be a blow for both teams and would be a great shame considering the form both sides find themselves in. Perth have shown they have bottle and can chase scores in high-pressure situations while Chennai’s main men haven’t even found their form yet.
For Chennai, Suresh Raina has been leading the way with the bat while Ashish Nehra and Mohit Sharma have been key with the ball in hand.
Perth, too, have seen great efforts from Adam Voges, while Yasir Arafat and Jason Behrendorff have been the standout bowlers. The Australian team recorded a last-ball win over the Dolphins in their opening match and then went on to lose against Kolkata Knight Riders. All of their matches have been tight, though, and should the rain stay away, it will be a thriller between the two teams in Bengaluru.
Perth opener Craig Simmons, who hit 48 in the win over the Dolphins, believed that the Australian team has what it takes to get a win over Chennai. He told Clt20.com:
"Firstly the weather needs to clear off a bit. We pushed KKR till the death the other night. So there’s no reason why we cannot do the same against CSK. All the batsmen are looking forward to coming to Bangalore. We’ve all heard some very good things about the wicket – short boundaries and quick outfield – we are excited as a batting group. The first six overs are pretty important here. It’s really important to get off to a good start. Myself and Adam Voges will look to go hard from ball one.
"
If the match ends up being shortened, which is highly likely, the hard-hitting of the two openers will be even more crucial.
Key players
Chennai
Suresh Raina has been in superb form for Chennai, and if he can continue his run Chennai will be in a strong position, especially when backed up by the bowlers.
Perth
Jason Behrendorff's ability to get the ball to swing will be key for Perth. A shortened match will be a big blow for both teams, but that's where the bowlers holding their nerve becomes even more crucial.
