WWE House Shows: Are They Worth the Money?
This is my first article I have written in about a month or so. First off, I apologize, I am working on a new website. Two, my passion hasn't died. I have been writing a lot of material for my new website.
First off, I would like to say I went to a WWE house show this weekend in North Charleston, South Carolina. I have always enjoyed going to wrestling events no matter how much the price, or who's wrestling. But this was the best wrestling event I have been too...wrestling wise at least.
I have gotten the honor of seeing Eric Bischoff getting fired. The day Paul Heyman was fired, I saw him leaving the Coliseum in a limo, to read later he was fired. I got to see William Regal crowned King of the Ring. But all those shows had a lack of wrestling.
The opening match at this house show was William Regal vs. Finlay. That is like a dream match up right there. These two played the crowd card so well, and they did things I haven't seen done in a WWE ring in years, including 20 seconds of them exchanging European uppercuts.
Of course they are on separate brands now, but for the sake of the show and opening contest, this match was amazing.
But with the decent wrestling and match ups, I got to thinking, are the house shows worth how much they cost? All the house shows down here advertised $15 dollar tickets for the worst seats. With the building fee included the minimum tickets cost $19 dollars.
Of course, i would pay $19 bucks, but I had to get the best seats available...of the day of the event. $44 bucks. Not to bad. But for a house show is it worth it?
I got front seats to two separate TNA events for 40 bucks. Both shows were really good, got to meet every single wrestler in TNA, for $40 bucks. Two separate times. So with that being said, is the WWE overcharging for house shows?
For the wrestlers advertised for the WWE show, I got to see Jeff Hardy, CM Punk, Kane, John Morrison, Christian, and Ricky "the Dragon" Steamboat.
The crowd was mostly sold out. But I still honestly feel like the tickets were overpriced for a non-televised event.
When you have families spending their hard earned money, and they want front row seats, is it fair they have to pay $55 bucks a piece just to see (some of) their favorite wrestlers wrestle for 3.5 hours?
If you have a wife and two kids. It'll end up costing you $220 dollars on tickets alone. Not to mention overpriced Coliseum food and souvenirs. You are gonna be spending $300 bucks plus on a WWE event.
To me, the WWE has no honest competition with TNA. Lowering ticket prices a little bit will not hurt their monetary value. They are the most watched television program weekly on television and tour the country 300+ days a year.
If they lower ticket prices, more people will spend money on souvenirs and products. They can make up money easily by lowering ticket prices. It's not like they will lose much. But then again, my name isn't Vince McMahon. So what do I know!
