Booing LA Galaxy Fans Tell David Beckham How They Feel
David Beckham’s first game back for LA Galaxy was always going to be an interesting game. Combined with the added tension of competing against AC Milan, the team Beckham played for over winer, and the contest was fascinating.
Would the Galaxy fans embrace Beckham or would they vent their anger at how he treated them and MLS this winter?
Judging from the banners around the sold-out Home Depot Center, it was pretty apparent before kick-off how the Galaxy fans felt. When Beckham’s name was announced, it was obvious that there were more boos than cheers.

LA’s Riot Squad continued to boo Beckham every time he touched the ball, holding aloft signs reading; "Go Home Fraud" and "23: Repent" in reference to his shirt number.
At one point, a furious Beckham tried to leap over an advertising board to confront the jeering fans. Appearing to make a “come on” gesture at the baying mob before allegedly swearing at a fan.
The honeymoon in LA between Beckham and soccer fans is over. As the LA Times wrote this morning:
"It's clear you can't fool the soccer faithful. Fans here know Beckham was so intent on not coming back to the Galaxy that he reportedly paid $3 million to ensure his loan to AC Milan was extended four months past his original March 9 MLS return."
Many Galaxy fans see the multi-tattooed Englishman as an over-the-hill, overpaid superstar who condescends to play once in a while, when he's not counting the royalties on his jersey sales. They're not entirely wrong, though injuries limited him to five games in 2007.
As for the game between the Galaxy and AC Milan, it ended up a 2-2 draw, with Beckham having a hand in both Galaxy goals.
For the first, he played a trademark cross-field ball to Donovan, who then set up Alan Gordon. The second came with Galaxy 2-1 down, as Beckham’s corner was headed home by Bryan Jordan.
"“There’s not another player on this team or in this league who can make those kinds of plays,” admitted Donovan. “That’s going to be crucial for us.”
"
It will be interesting to see how Beckham responds to the jeering. Will he sulk like he did last season or will he be fired up to show the fans that they are wrong about him?
Only time will tell.
