Deportivo vs. Real Madrid: Winners and Losers from La Liga Game
Where to start?
Real Madrid replicated Manchester United's famous 8-2 win over Arsenal in a crazy match against Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday.
Having lost their last two matches in the league, Real Madrid couldn't afford another slip-up at Riazor, and they certainly played like that was the case in a bewildering performance.
Naturally, it means the winners and losers to emerge from the 10-goal game are naturally slanted in Los Blancos' favour.
Winners: Goals and Ronaldo
1 of 5
Real Madrid scored more goals against Deportivo la Coruna than any La Liga team, at the time of writing, has scored all season.
Valencia have struck seven in their opening three matches, making them the second top scorers in Spain—Madrid now have 13.
And among those eight goals, Cristiano Ronaldo just had to be involved.
He scored two of the first three—the first a delightful header, the second a composed finish into an empty net from 35 yards—before adding his side's sixth goal as well.
The Portuguese forward has now notched five times in just three league games this season.
Loser: German Lux
2 of 5
After making a stunning save from Gareth Bale after 15 minutes, it looked like Deportivo La Coruna goalkeeper German Lux was in the mood to frustrate Madrid.
However, that couldn't have been further from the truth.
He will feel particularly bad about the third goal, Ronaldo's second.
Racing off his line to confront an advancing Karim Benzema, he got nowhere near the ball and left his net screaming out for someone to put the ball in it.
Ronaldo, of course, duly obliged.
Lux then had to pick the ball out of his goal a further five times. He won't be in a rush to watch the game back, that is for sure.
Winners: James and Hernandez
3 of 5
It's always nice to get acquainted to your new home as quickly as possible, and both James Rodriguez and Javier Hernandez enhanced that process in Madrid's thumping win over Deportivo La Coruna.
Colombian international James was first to draw woops from the viewers, smashing a curling effort into the top corner of German Lux's goal from 20 yards.
He couldn't have placed it better if he tried.
Hernandez, on loan from Manchester United, had the final say, though, scoring two breathtaking goals in the last 10 minutes.
Known for scoring goals off the bench at Old Trafford, the Mexican international is now up and running at Madrid.
Losers: Sidnei and Modibo Diakite
4 of 5
You can't blame them too much, but they would probably have expected more from themselves.
Even the best defences in the world shudder at the thought of facing a front four of James Rodriguez, Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo, so Sidnei and Modibo Diakite knew they would have their work cut out.
Unfortunately, sometimes, doing your homework is not even enough.
Nobody wants to concede eight goals, even against teams like Real Madrid, and by the end the pair were contributing to their side's downfall.
Diakite's sloppy use of the ball regularly put Depor in trouble and led directly to one of Madrid's goals.
Loser: Karim Benzema
5 of 5
It's tough to find a loser from such an emphatic win for Madrid.
Perhaps you could blame Sergio Ramos for giving the penalty away with a handball, or Iker Casillas for once again failing to keep a clean sheet.
However, French forward Karim Benzema may be feeling like a loser tonight.
He didn't play badly, contributing two assists, but it will be tough for him to see Ronaldo (3), Bale (2), Hernandez (2) and James all on the score sheet, while he's left with just one league goal to his name this season.
As stated above, though, it's clutching at straws to label a Madrid player a loser.
