Younes Kaboul Named Tottenham Captain: Latest Details, Comments, Reaction
Younes Kaboul has been named as Tottenham's new club captain after the recent departure of Michael Dawson—who formerly held the role—to Hull City.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino's decision to make the French centre-back his new skipper was announced on Tuesday via the club's Twitter feed:

Kaboul first joined the north London side in 2007 before moving to Portsmouth a year later, only to return to White Hart Lane in 2010.
The 28-year-old France international has said he hopes to achieve great things as skipper in something of a new era for Spurs considering Pochettino's recent arrival from Southampton:
After Dawson's departure, Tottenham were in need of a new permanent captain, although the announcement was never going to come before the closing of the transfer window, per the Daily Mail's Matt Barlow.

However, Jan Vertonghen was reported on Saturday to be all but confirmed as the new skipper by Jamie Sanderson in Metro.
Indeed, the Belgian was the more likely choice considering his quality as a defender all but guaranteeing him a starting spot. In fact, the late-August signing of Federico Fazio by Spurs was seen by many as the potential end for Kaboul as a starting player, per Goal.com's Jay Jaffa:
However, it seems that is not the case, and with Kaboul's installation as captain, Vertonghen and Fazio will likely have to fight it out for the other centre-back spot.
Harry Sherlock, also of Goal.com, suggests that either Vertonghen or keeper Hugo Lloris should have taken the armband ahead of Kaboul:
Spurs currently lie sixth in the Premier League after four games and face West Brom next in the English top flight, a relatively simple game for Kaboul after the announcement.
He will have to prove himself worthy of the captaincy at Spurs and anything less than a top-four finish will likely be seen as an under-performance come the season's close.
If Kaboul can keep himself fit and control his often poor discipline, he may well prove doubters wrong as he is a strong presence at the back when he is at his best. But it is not a wholly well-received appointment and Kaboul must address that with strong performances.
