NASCAR Truck Series at Chicago 2014 Results: Winner, Standings and Reaction

Matt FitzgeraldSep 13, 2014

Kyle Busch led a race-high 66 laps en route to Victory Lane in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series' Lucas Oil 225 at Chicagoland Speedway on Saturday.

It was eventful triumph for Busch to say the least, as the usual Sprint Cup driver fought through multiple points of adversity to take the checkered flag. Here is a look at the standings:

NASCAR Trucks pointed out how Busch has a knack for succeeding at this particular track:

Samantha Busch took to Instagram to celebrate:

Bob Pockrass of Sporting News highlighted the notable development in what turned out to be only a temporary setback for the eventual winner:

Busch's race team documented the massive move Busch made in the early going amid the field of 25:

Utilizing his raw skill and drawing on his past prowess at the Joliet, Illinois, venue, Busch fought his way back to the front. Jeff Gluck of USA Today channeled Drake amid Busch's furious charge into the lead that he ultimately wouldn't relinquish:

It comes as little surprise that Busch was able to get the job done at Chicagoland. On the pole for the first Chase for the Sprint Cup race on Sunday, Busch was already fired up about the prospects of winning his first official Sprint Cup championship.

"In 2012, I’m the champion in this current format," said Busch, per Jerry Bonkowski of Motor Sports Talk. "My worst year ever and miss the Chase, with three engine blow-ups in a row in the summer. And then we ran well enough in the Chase that we would have won the championship."

Whatever happens with Busch moving forward, he has to be a favorite in the Sprint Cup race come Sunday, where he finished runner-up a year ago.

As for the rest of the notable truck competitors in Saturday's race, Matt Crafton eclipsed ThorSports teammate Johnny Sauter for the points lead with his runner-up finish, which was 1.130 seconds behind Busch.

It had to be frustrating for Sauter to lose his grip, because he led 24 laps to Crafton's 14. A similar pitfall in the pits that Busch suffered befell Sauter, too:

How those two friendly drivers in Sauter and Crafton battle down the stretch will be fascinating to watch.

Ryan Blaney and Darrell Wallace Jr. are third and fourth in points, respectively. Blaney was one lap off the pace Saturday and finished 12th, while Wallace ran near the front and led 10 laps in settling for sixth.

With seven races still on the NASCAR Truck Series schedule, there is plenty of time for the points race to heat up. Crafton's lead of just five points may only be temporary after next week's showcase at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
