Kevin Love's Interest in LeBron James Reunion with 76ers Revealed in New NBA Rumors

Even though LeBron James and Kevin Love got together this summer as part of the 10th anniversary celebration of the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers title, a basketball reunion may not be in the cards for the former teammates.

According to ESPN's Dave McMenamin, Love has "interest" in playing with James again and his agent has had contact with Philadelphia 76ers officials despite their roster already being at the maximum 15 players under contract:

"Love's agent, Jeff Schwartz of Excel Sports Management, has been in touch with the Philadelphia 76ers' front office since James picked Philadelphia, sources told ESPN. Though the 6-foot-10 Love and James have remained close since teaming up for four seasons with the Cavaliers and even vacationed extensively together this summer, that bond doesn't necessarily mean there will be a roster spot for the former five-time All-Star by training camp."

McMenamin added that Love also has a "strong relationship" with Utah Jazz head coach Will Hardy and could look to return there next season, but their roster is also at capacity for the time being.

The Sixers reached their roster limit by reuniting James with another former teammate, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, after he agreed to a contract buyout with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Philadelphia also added to its wing depth earlier in the offseason by signing Dean Wade. Given Joel Embiid's frequent health issues, the club also has to be mindful of its center depth with Adam Bona and Ariel Hukporti as the backups.

Love has continued to hang around in the NBA as a veteran presence primarily coming off the bench in recent years. He spent last season with the Jazz, appearing in 37 games.

Before joining Utah, Love spent two years with the Miami Heat from February 2023 through the end of the 2024-25 season. He was an effective three-point shooter for the Jazz with a 37.3 percent success rate on 3.8 attempts per game.

A team like the 76ers doesn't necessarily need more three-point shooting with Tyrese Maxey, Anfernee Simons and Wade all being efficient in that regard.

At this point in his career, Love seeking out a situation that allows him to be on a team competing for a title makes perfect sense. He could also be a voice in the locker room to help younger talent.

Love and James spent four seasons as teammates with the Cavs from 2014 to '18. They reached the NBA Finals in each of those four years, defeating the Golden State Warriors in 2016 to help Cleveland win its first championship.
