Monterrey vs. Guadalajara: Date, Time, Preview and More

Tom SunderlandSep 12, 2014

Two of Mexico's in-form powers meet on Saturday evening as second-place Monterrey hope to take a stride over Guadalajara in their pursuit of the Liga MX perch.

The Striped Ones are currently level on points with league leaders Club America, but a victory this weekend would see Carlos Barra's side overcome what could be a difficult test of their ability.

Both sides are unbeaten in their last five matches across all competitions, and the recently improved Guadalajara will be hopeful of causing an upset when they make the trip to the Tecnologico.

Key Players To Watch

Monterrey: Dorlan Pabon

After struggling for form at Valencia and Sao Paulo during recent spells, Dorlan Pabon returned to Monterrey this summer, and his impact upon returning has been instant.

Scoring seven goals in his first seven matches back in the Apertura, the attacker accounts for a significant majority of the 10 goals Monterrey have netted this term.

Strangely enough, 15th-place Veracruz are the only side with a defence matching that of Monterrey's so far this term, each conceding only four goals, but it seems without Pabon in firing form, the Striped Ones struggle to find a scoring threat.

That being said, he will hope to bounce back into finishing fashion on Saturday, having failed to carry on his streak against Queretaro, albeit registering an assist during that crucial 1-0 victory.

Guadalajara: Carlos Fierro

His season so far has so far been a mixed one, Carlos Fierro often settling for cameo appearances as Guadalajara have managed to score just five goals this term, half that of Saturday's opponents.

However, it took the 20-year-old just 10 minutes to bag a brace against Leones Negros last time out, coming on in the 71st minute to ease his side to a more comfortable 3-0 mauling of their most recent opposition.

Chivas' official Twitter account was evidently pleased to see the prodigious Fierro make his way back into the scoring frame:

That performance may have convinced Carlos Bustos that the starlet is once again deserving of his chance in the starting line-up, and Guadalajara need every advantage they can get as they go in search of progression through the standings.
