UFC Recap: TUF Team Rampage Vs Team Griffin Episode 6

Gary WhittakerMay 7, 2008

Best quote so far has got to be Tim Credeur, when talking about Jeremy and his antics, "If Jeremy and I were the last two people on earth, I'd quickly be the last person on earth.". Could be that he has the entire house fooled though, because according to him, he was drinking water the whole time, pretending he was drunk.

During the Team Rampage segment, they reveal that May has been nursing an injured knee. That just leads me to believe that Jeremy is acting up as much as he is just so that he can increase his camera time. Cutting over to Team Griffin, Amir predicts that Matt Brown will win "by murder".

Cue the weigh in, and both fighters come in under the 185 pound limit, with Jeremy at 184, and Matt at 183,5. Jeremy is all smiles at the pose down, but he sure won't be smilin' when he sees the tape of team mate Mathew Riddle squealing on his knee injury.

In comes another shocker. According to May, the knee injury was strictly a ploy to not train as hard and pace himself. While he admits that there is some pain, it was not enough to present any problem in his mobility, as you see him nimbly play with a soccer ball before the match.

Tale of the Tape

Jeremy May           Name            Matt Brown
    21                        Age                        27
    6'4''                        Height                6'0''
    78''                        Reach                  75,5''
    6-5                        Record                9-6

Round 1: Herb Dean is the referee.

Jeremy comes up with bombs first, but is floored by a quick counter by Matt Brown. Matt Brown takes his time, and then gets on top, and quickly get mount! Matt seems unwilling to trade blows, but pulls out an arm-bar attempt when it looked like May was about to get out. Matt was close to getting it locked in, when Jeremy picks up Matt Brown about a foot off the ground, slams him down, and then pulls out his arm from danger to then use it to land a vicious punch. May is using his reach to strike, and ignores Rampage's demands to get position to get side control. Matt is able to stand up, and takes Jeremy down. Matt is working slowly, but deliberately, as he keeps superior position and lands some big shots. Jeremy able to absorb punishment as he stands back up, but goes down again soon after when another big punch lands. This time Matt does not bother going down to the ground with him, and lets him back up while landing a few good shots and an elbow to the head. That may have been the difference as he goes into a clinch and lands a big knee, before landing a big leg strike to the head that floors May.

You heard Forrest Griffin screaming in the background for Matt to "let the animal out". Matt was impressive in his stand up game, as not just a puncher with heavy hands, but someone that will think his moves through. His ground skills seem to be good enough where he can defend himself

Luke Zachrich is next up. He was the last one picked, and he has something to prove. His teammate Tim Credeur seems to agree with that assessment. Supposedly by coin toss, Forrest Griffin selects Daniel Cramer to go up against him. Rampage seems to like how solid Cramer's chin is, and is desperately hoping for his first win in 5 matches. Since Luke's game plan is to stand and bang, then this should be the one that does it.

Tale of the Tape

Daniel Cramer        Name        Luke Zachrich
    22                          Age                    26
    6'2''                        Height              6'2,5''
    75,5''                    Reach                74''
    3-0                        Record                7-1

Round 1: Steve Mazzagatti is the referee. Both fighters exchange punches, and clinch hard. Both fighters are very active in the click, throwing a lot of punches. Action slows a bit when Dan takes Luke to the cage. Luke seems to rock Dan, but it's Dan that attempts the take down. Both of these fighters keep throwing, but it's Luke that seems to be getting the better of the exchanges. All Dan seems to do is throw punches, while Luke is getting some shots in from the clinch. 3 minutes in, and they are still throwing punches, but now it's Luke that seems to be gassing and Dan is getting the better shots in. With a minute left, Luke gets a take down. Dan seems so tired, and lets Luke get his back. Both fighters are too tired to try any real submissions, although Dan seems worse for wear.

10-9 Luke Zachrich. Being more active in the beginning, combined with almost getting a rear naked choke after the take down was the difference maker for me.

Round 2: Dan starts off very aggressive, and almost lands a strong knee from the clinch. He then gets the take down, and lands into full mount. Dans is throwing punches, making Luke give up his back. It's a minute in, and both fighters are gassed. It is a battle of wills at this point. Luke is not defending anymore, as Dan is throwing punches non-stop.

Winner: Dan Cramer!

Dan's ground game was exposed. He has none. I don't think he has any chance of making it past the next round.
