Euro 2016: Updated Qualifying Tables, Results, Fixtures and Predictions
World Cup winners Germany were in action on Sunday as they took on Scotland as 16 teams got their qualifying campaigns for Euro 2016 under way.
Almost all the other teams involved will start their trip on the road to France in the next two days as each outfit looks for an early victory to get themselves off to the best of starts.
With the 2016 tournament being comprised of 24 teams—as opposed to the previous format which involved 16—the top two in each group will eventually qualify for the final tournament.

Portugal Upset While Germany Edge Scotland

Arguably the biggest upset of Sunday's eight matches was Portugal's 1-0 home defeat to Albania in Group I which compounded the negativity towards Paulo Bento's side after their group-stage World Cup exit.
Though they were missing their star man Cristiano Ronaldo, it was a shocking result for a Portugal side which still boasted some quality players, per BT Sport's Jake Humphrey:
Bekim Balaj scored the decisive goal for Albania, a beautifully taken, right-footed volley from 14 yards out which left the keeper with no chance.
Bento's position as Portugal coach is likely now in significant danger, per Portuguese football writer Jan Hagen, after Sunday's insipid display revealed just how reliant they are on Ronaldo:
Joachim Low's German side made tough work of overcoming a resilient Scotland side who improved greatly after the half-time break.
Thomas Muller bagged both of Germany's goals in the 2-1 victory in which the world champions were somewhat unconvincing, per BT Sport's Ian Darke:
Germany looked comfortable in the first half, dominating Gordon Strachan's men and taking a 1-0 lead.
However, Steven Fletcher released Ikechi Anya who equalised past Manuel Neuer after 66 minutes only for Muller to claim a scrambled winner five minutes later.
Charlie Mulgrew was sent off in stoppage time but Scotland can be satisfied despite the loss while Germany will no doubt improve as qualification continues.
England to Claim a Point with Spain Taking Victory

Neither Spain nor England had an auspicious World Cup, both going out at the group stages.
Spain's was the more surprising fall from grace considering they were the defending champions but the Three Lions were incredibly poor.
Vicente del Bosque starts his rebuilding process with what should be an easy win against Macedonia, although his squad is somewhat unfamiliar, being without veterans Xavi Hernandez, Xabi Alonso, David Villa and Fernando Torres.
However, Macedonia do not present a particularly daunting prospect for Spain on their return to competitive action and a convincing start to their qualifying campaign will be most welcome for La Roja.
England travel to Basel to take on a strong Swiss team on Monday after failing to impress in a recent 1-0 friendly victory over Norway.
However, new captain Wayne Rooney seems highly motivated to prove the doubters wrong and England certainly have the quality to compete, as the Manchester United striker points out, per Goal.com:
"If you look at the squad, with Raheem Sterling, Daniel Sturridge, Jack Wilshere and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, they are doing great for their teams in the Premier League. Being part of a World Cup and seeing how it is can only give them great experience for future tournaments but we all have to stand up now and make sure we qualify for Euro 2016.
"
Roy Hodgson's men will likely be happy with a point in what is probably their toughest match in the whole qualifying campaign from Group E.
They will need to defend well as Switzerland have some top-quality players—they made it to the last 16 of the World Cup—but England should have enough for a draw.
Selected Predictions: Spain 4-0 Macedonia, Switzerland 1-1 England
