Paul Heyman Slams Wrestlers Riding Brock Lesnar Bandwagon
Jeff RobertsJul 14, 2009
Simon Rothstein of the Sun (UK) has posted a very interesting exclusive interview with former Brock Lesnar WWE on-air agent Paul Heyman, who has offered up an interesting opinion regarding some of Vince McMahon's WWE superstars who have posted their thoughts on Brock Lesnar's victory over Frank Mir for the UFC Undisputed Championship at UFC 100.
Heyman, who blogged yesterday about Brock's post-fight explosion and UFC President Dana White's marketing of the former WWE Champion and current UFC top attraction, told Rothstein, "I'm actually surprised at how many wrestlers think Brock's domination of Mir somehow makes pro wrestling more legitimate. It clearly doesn't," Heyman is exclusively quoted as saying in this afternoon's SUN (UK).
"Brock's victory in the Octagon is as much a vindication for pro wrestling or WWE as Jesse Ventura becoming governor of Minnesota is a sign that wrestlers should run for political office. One has nothing to do with the other. Brock's win was for Brock and his family.

"It doesn't mean wrestlers are tough but it doesn't mean they're not, either—it means Brock is tough."
Heyman, the former ECW Owner who scripted Lesnar as "The Next Big Thing" during Lesnar's meteoric rise to the top of sports entertainment in 2002, said "Pro wrestling is an artistic expression, while UFC is a competitive sport.
"Wrestlers are to be admired for the risks they take and the extraordinary toll they exact on their bodies in order to entertain the audience."
Heyman, whose entire series of statements can be read on SunSport (http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/ufc/2535302/Lesnars-truly-one-of-a-kind.html), goes out of his way not to disparage his former co-workers in the professional wrestling industry, but also makes sure his point that pro wrestling, or wrestlers more specifically are not vindicated by Lesnar's victory.
Only Lesnar was vindicated, and Heyman seems to want to make sure his former on-air cohort gets all the credit.
Interesting story, an eye-opening take from Heyman.
