What Can Anthony Parker Do for the Cavs? Analyzing the Newest Cavalier
Today, the Cleveland Cavaliers officially announced the signing of G Anthony Parker to a two-year deal for half of the mid-level exception.
The deal gives the Cavaliers another solid outside shooter at about forty percent from three-point range.
At 6'6'', Parker also provides length which will help defensively when closing out on shooters. He brings a high basketball IQ and clutch shooting along with underrated athleticism for someone who is 34-years-old.
With the roster, Parker is expected to either be a starter at SG or the Cavaliers' first man off the bench, competing with incumbent Delonte West for the starting job.
Parker, in three seasons with Toronto, was a great contributor, averaging double-figure points and over one steal per game.
In his career, he has made many clutch shots and was renown for his decent perimeter defense, a la Bruce Bowen.
Parker's career took off when he spent multiple years at European powerhouse Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel. There, he won the Euroleague MVP two consecutive seasons and a pair of Euroleague championships.
Playing alongside LeBron James and Shaquille O'Neal will ensure that Parker gets multiple open looks for spot-up jumpers. Plus, he has the ability to create his own shot off the dribble and can drive to the basket.
He might not be the flashiest player, but he has a chance to have some great success and can fill the sixth man role for the Cavaliers, similar to what Mickael Pietrus did for the Orlando Magic this past season.
Parker might not be the absolute missing piece, but he adds depth and scoring to a club that is still trying to earn that elusive first NBA championship.
