Madden NFL 15 Player Ratings: Secondaries That Will Be Tough to Throw Against
High marks for the members of the Seattle Seahawks secondary is perhaps the surest bet when it comes to Madden 15 ratings. As expected, the Legion of Boom are scattered throughout the top five of every secondary position.
With an extra emphasis being placed on defense—specifically pass coverage—in this year's game, teams like Seattle will be as tough to move the ball against as they are in real life.
Naturally, cover athlete Richard Sherman has a 99 overall rating to lead all cornerbacks. I mean, he did tell you he was the best corner in the league. What did you expect?
Strong safety Kam Chancellor topped all strong safeties with a 93 overall rating. As one might expect from Bam Bam, his hit power rating is a 97. Keep your head on a swivel when Chancellor is around.
Free safety Earl Thomas was the second-highest-rated free safety with a 95 overall rating behind the New Orleans Saints' Jairus Byrd. Second place wasn't good enough for some hardcore 'Hawks fans, though. Bryan Wiedey (aka Pasta Padre), a devoted Seahawks fan, said this:
Even with Thomas getting edged out by Byrd, Seattle boasts the top-rated corner, strong safety and the No. 2-rated free safety in the game.
If you're playing against Seattle, you better tighten up that run game. Here are two more teams whose defensive backs will give your virtual quarterback a headache.
New England Patriots
Just behind Sherman is Darrelle Revis with a 97 overall rating. That might be a bit of a spruced-up rating because of his years as a premier corner.
At 29 years old and having had to recover from a torn ACL, Revis may not be the same shutdown corner he used to be. But he can still do things like this to Tom Brady in training camp:
Whether you believe Revis is worthy of his rating or not, he'll still be a monster to control on Madden 15. Free safety Devin McCourty is also among the standouts at his position.
He has the third highest overall rating among free safeties at 94. EA Sports' Donny Moore said this about McCourty:
"The best part of former CB Devin McCourty’s game is his 90 Man Coverage (top-ranked FS by eight points), 97 Zone Coverage (ranked second), and his physical measurables (93 SPD/93AGI/95ACC)."
The converted cornerback has exceptional speed for his position.
Miami Dolphins
Reshad Jones comes in as the fifth-highest rated strong safety with an 89 overall rating. While his 86 speed isn't going to win him any track meets, it's good enough to handle most of his man-to-man responsibilities and more than sufficient for zone pass coverage.
He has gained a reputation as a big-play guy in the Dolphins defense. Despite seeing his forced fumbles and fumble recoveries go from two in 2012 to zero in 2013 and his interceptions drop from four to one, Jones remains confident—and obviously respected.
Per Omar Kelly of the Miami Sun-Sentinel, Jones said:
"Everybody just knows Reshad Jones is a big play guy, the guy who gets the explosive plays and gets things going. When preparation meets opportunity [is his mantra]. I just have to continue to work my [butt] off during practice to be an extra step ahead of those guys, and be able to make those explosive plays that help the Dolphins win football games.
"
He won't be the only elite defensive back gamers can turn to in hopes of helping the Dolphins win virtual football games.
While Brent Grimes didn't make the top five at corner, EA Sports did make it known that he just barely missed the cut.
That still gives the 'Phins two top-notch players in the secondary. That's not too shabby—especially with Cameron Wake applying pressure on the quarterback. It might be fun to run with the 'Phins this year.
