Balotelli Sent Home by Italy
Mario Balotelli has struggled at Liverpool, but a recent injury could further slow down his production.
The Italian forward was sent home from Italy training with hamstring and groin injuries, according to Sky Sports:
"Mario Balotelli has been ruled out of Italy's Euro 2016 qualifier against Croatia on Sunday due to concerns over his hamstring and groin
[...]
A statement from the Italian FA said: 'Mario Balotelli and Angelo Ogbonna will leave the team training camp. Although Ogbonna's left thigh injury is improving, he has been advised to avoid stressing the injury as a precaution.
'It is the same scenario for the Balotelli, who since Friday has felt a hamstring strain and a sore groin.'
"
The Italian national team released a statement regarding the striker on Saturday:
"Mario Balotelli and Angelo Ogbonna left the training camp this morning. The Juventus defender has an injury to the left bicep femoris muscle in his hamstring and has been sent home as a precaution, whist the Liverpool striker also picked up a hamstring injury in training.
"
Balotelli was meant to replace the scoring touch of Luis Suarez for Liverpool but has yet to find the back of the net in the league at Anfield this season. While his much-maligned temper has yet to flare, his lack of production has been troubling.
Daniel Sturridge, Raheem Sterling and others can provide enough scoring up front to make up for the loss of Balotelli should he miss a match, but Liverpool will still miss the dynamic play of the young striker.
The Reds will certainly hope he can return to action before long and make this transfer worthwhile.
