Boise State's Malcolm Johnson: Oregon Star Was Great in Les Schwab Bowl

Lace BanachekJul 7, 2009

Yesterday, I was viewing Malcolm Johnson’s 32-14 win in his final high school game—an All Star game for the best of Oregon's graduating seniors in the Les Schwab Bowl.

MJ had a terrific game as he clearly showed just how great of an athlete he truly is. Malcolm is a gifted running back with extreme balance.

One would assume that he has mastered martial arts for his ability to change motion; his foot direction in stride is smooth. For example, Malcolm was set to the left of his quarterback as the snap set the play in motion around his team's 43 or so.

The next few seconds were short of awesome. Malcolm took the handoff, went diagonally to the right for about eight to twelve yards, then cut back towards the middle field juking in and out of would-be tacklers.

It seemed like the defenders were all close enough to grab him at times, but Malcolm’s elusive footwork and upper body movement made that play a non-reality.

Malcolm finally maneuvered to the left side of the field about the 20 or so and scored, with the grace and speed that only the great ones display. MJ's stats on the day were 160 yards give or take.

But when one is talking about Malcolm, it is not really the total amount of yards that is a big deal. Heck, MJ holds the record for yards by a running back in an Oregon game with over 400. Its what he does with the ball that is mind blowing.

Malcolm is truly a great running back and the Broncos of Boise State are looking forward to having him play regularly. Once again, Malcolm will most likely redshirt as there is no need for him this year.

One year studying the playbook, lifting weights, and practicing with the Broncos as a redshirt freshman will prepare Malcolm for a very successful outing in 2010.

So he doesn’t play the Ducks this season in 09'—he will play the Oregon State Beavers in 2010 and according to Gene Bleymaier, he will be playing another BCS team of significance as well.

An undefeated team in 2010, who can say for sure the Broncos will not be in the number two-poll position in the BCS top 25 at the close of the season?

It sounds realistic to me and with all the redshirts that will be coming out and the Broncos only losing fives players, the 2010 rendition of the Bronco's will no doubt be the finest team that Boise State has ever had set foot on its blue turf or any other field for that matter. Go Broncos!

The greatest MJ of all time

Thinking of great MJ’s, today is no doubt one of the deepest felt days in history of mankind. The man who warmed the hearts and touched lives of countless people across the world, Michael Jackson, has left the Staples Center Arena for the very last time, in cold stillness.

The man who, when always in the presence of his fans was never stilled for long, has humbled himself this day before family friends etc. as he lay in his casket for a two-hour remembrance ceremony.

Michael, the King of Pop, forever the persona of cool, shall always remain alive in the hearts of so many. Indeed, the great ones, Elvis, John Lennon, Frank, Dino, and now Michael are not allowed to pass away – their images, music, and in Michael's case even his words, continue on as people are reminded once again, “We Are The World, We Are The Children.”

Thank you Michael!
