MLB All-Star Game Lineup 2014: Complete Look at Each Team's Starters
It may be the year (or decade or century) of the pitcher, but Tuesday will be the day of the hitter.
A quick look at the starters for Tuesday's MLB All-Star Game reveals two of the most stacked lineups we've seen in quite some time. An unbelievable amount of power is emanating from each lineup, and even with a couple of dominant pitching staffs, there should be no shortage of runs crossing the plate at Target Field.
Let's take a closer look.

Ranking Every Team's Farm System 📊
American League
| 1 | Derek Jeter | Yankees | SS |
| 2 | Mike Trout | Angels | LF |
| 3 | Robinson Cano | Mariners | 2B |
| 4 | Miguel Cabrera | Tigers | 1B |
| 5 | Jose Bautista | Blue Jays | RF |
| 6 | Nelson Cruz | Orioles | DH |
| 7 | Adam Jones | Orioles | CF |
| 8 | Josh Donaldson | Athletics | 3B |
| 9 | Salvador Perez | Royals | C |
| SP | Felix Hernandez | Mariners | P |
Derek Jeter is going to get a lot of the attention because this is his last hurrah, but just take a look at the heart of that lineup. My goodness.
Mike Trout, the two-time MVP runner-up who currently leads the majors with a WAR of 5.5. Robinson Cano, whose power has tailed off a bit in his first season with the Seattle Mariners but is still hitting a robust .334. Miguel Cabrera, arguably the most feared hitter on the planet despite suffering through a down year (compared to his ridiculously high expectations, at least) so far.
Cleaning up that trio of on-base machines will be Jose Bautista and Nelson Cruz, two of the most dangerous power hitters in the league.
Michigan State baseball player Blaise Salter put it simply:
As for Josh Donaldson, who slots No. 8 in the lineup between Adam Jones and Salvador Perez, he's just happy to be included with a slew of the game's most valuable players, via the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser:
Still, while the murderer's row in the middle of the lineup is unmatched, there is a slight oddity when it comes to the American League.
With the exception of Robinson Cano, every hitter is right-handed.
NL starter Adam Wainwright has been pretty much unfair against everyone he has faced this season, but he has been especially transcendent against right-handed bats, holding them to a silly .178/.221/.255 slash line. Among all qualified pitchers, no pitcher has been tougher in that respect.
This is your classic unstoppable force versus immovable object. Something will have to give in the first two innings, and it will be fascinating to watch.
National League
| 1 | Andrew McCutchen | Pirates | CF |
| 2 | Yasiel Puig | Dodgers | RF |
| 3 | Troy Tulowitzki | Rockies | SS |
| 4 | Paul Goldschmidt | Diamondbacks | 1B |
| 5 | Giancarlo Stanton | Marlins | DH |
| 6 | Aramis Ramirez | Brewers | 3B |
| 7 | Chase Utley | Phillies | 2B |
| 8 | Jonathan Lucroy | Brewers | C |
| 9 | Carlos Gomez | Brewers | LF |
| SP | Adam Wainwright | Cardinals | P |
Felix Hernandez better be ready to go because the NL's biggest strength is likely at the top of the order.
Andrew McCutchen and Troy Tulowitzki, batting first and third in the order, respectively, rank in the top two in the majors in on-base percentage.
Tulo has been arguably the best individual player in the first half while ESPN's Mark Simon noted that same distinction might belong to 'Cutch over the last six weeks:
Sandwich the electrifying Yasiel Puig in between them, and follow up with Paul Goldschmidt and Giancarlo Stanton, who are both in the top 10 in the majors in slugging percentage, and that's about as good of a first five as you can get.
The latter, in particular, has potential for fireworks as he showed during Monday's Home Run Derby:
NL manager Mike Matheny, via MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch, talked about Stanton's immense power:
"He's a pretty impressive guy. I think anybody who has had to deal with him and watch the impact he has on the game, an impact he has on the lineup, you have to give a great deal of respect not just on the power … but the ability he has to turn around the game on one pitch. I'm not sure I've seen a guy since [Mark] McGwire that hits the ball as hard as Stanton does.
"
Of course, the back of the order isn't bad, either.
Chase Utley is having a tremendous season. Jonathan Lucroy, who is hitting .315 and is third in the majors in doubles, is a legitimate MVP candidate, and Carlos Gomez could easily make a run at a 30-30 season.
The American League has more firepower, especially in the middle of its lineup, but from top to bottom, the NL is unmatched.
