In yet even more news in this summer's transfer window for Manchester United, according to the Times Online, former Newcastle striker Michael Owen will join the Red Devils on July 3rd, pending him passing a medical exam.

This is an extremely shocking move for Owen, who became a free agent after Newcastle was relegated to the Championship division during the last game of this year's Premier League season, and got very little interest from any Premier League clubs.

In joining United, Owen will have a massive drop from his old salary at Newcastle, which was worth £120,000 a week. He previously recieved an offer from Everton which was equal to about £50,000 a week.

With this move, Owen will replace the hole created will the leave of Carlos Tevez to an unknown team, and will now challange Dimitar Berbatov for potential playing time next season.

It has been longed rumored that Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been after Owen. However, he didn't go after him in 2005 after Real Madrid let him go in, mainly because Rooney and Ruud van Nistelrooy were occupying the striker position at that time.

Ferguson was considering a £12 million bid the next summer for Owen the next summer, but Owen got his famous injury to his cruciate ligament in that summer's World Cup.

A main reason why Owen will be joining the Red Devils will to play alongside fellow English star Wayne Rooney, in order to show England's national team coach Fabio Capello that he could still score goals for the English national team in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
