Masters Results 2014: Most Disheartening Performances at Augusta

Forgettable 2014 Masters results won't be forgotten by those who performed them.

The golfers will either be haunted by their struggles or use them as motivation to bounce back. Bubba Watson had the motivation of floundering through most of his last seven major tournaments between Masters victories. Here is the leaderboard Watson climbed to the top of on Sunday, and the most disappointing performances of the event.

5. Keegan Bradley

Bradley hasn't lived up to the hype since he won PGA Tour Rookie of the Year. In 2011 and 2012, he started his career scorching by winning the PGA Championship and finishing tied for third the following year. Over that time span, he won a total of three PGA tournaments.

Since 2013, though, top-five finishes have been few and far between. He hasn't won a PGA tournament, let alone a major.

After finishing second in this March's Arnold Palmer Invitational, the only time he's finished top 10 this year, Bradley must have felt confident heading into the Masters. 

He shot nine over par, missing the cut like the rest of the struggling golfers on this list.

Darron Cummings

4. Zach Johnson

Johnson is the 2007 Masters champion. He hasn't won a major PGA tournament since, but he's finished top 10 five times, including in the 2013 Open Championship and PGA Championship. Johnson couldn't have felt incapable of ending this streak entering last Thursday.

He already had a win under his belt this year in the Hyundai Tournament of Champions. In his warm-up for the Masters, the Valero Texas Open, he finished tied for sixth.

Johnson's momentum did him no good. He missed the cut by shooting six over par through Day 2.

3. Sergio Garcia

Major tournaments hate Sergio Garcia.

The 34-year-old Spaniard was having an encouraging 2014 campaign. He finished top 10 in three out of the four events he participated in, including third in the Shell Open a week before the Masters.

Garcia finished tied for eighth last year at Augusta. All of the signs pointed to at least a sliver of success this past weekend. 

But he shot five over par and missed the cut.

2. Dustin Johnson

Like Garcia, this Johnson started his 2014 season off with several top-10 finishes. He finished tied for second in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, second in the Northern Trust Open and tied for fourth in the World Golf Championships.

Combine his success this year with the fact that he's never missed a Masters cut, and no one in their right mind expected Johnson to not tee off on Saturday.

Well, he shot seven over par and missed the cut. Only one golfer should be more disappointed with his performance than Johnson.

1. Phil Mickelson

When Mickelson won the 2013 Open Championship, he had finished top three in three out of his five previous PGA Tour events. He was due for a win.

When Lefty entered this year's Masters, he hadn't finished top 10 in not only his five previous PGA outings, but all season. He wasn't due for a win. He needed to shrug off a slump.

He couldn't. Mickelson finished five over par through Day 2, missing the cut. As WRDW News 12's Meredith Anderson pointed out, it's been a while since Lefty performed so poorly at Augusta.

And the 43-year-old's drought continues.
