Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar Results: Beast's Win Cements Status as Epic Heel

Brian MaziqueApr 6, 2014

Raise your hand if you saw that coming.

Now put it down, liars.

In one of the biggest swerves in WrestleMania history, the Undertaker's monumental streak at the Showcase of the Immortals came to a close.ย

On the strength of three F5s from Brock Lesnar, the streak is dead, and an eternal heel has the signature win of his, or any other WWE career.

To say the WWE community was shocked is an understatement. Check out the reaction:

The look on the fan's faces ringside at the Superdome in New Orleans showed a similar level of shock and amazement. Check out this tweet from WPIX11 New York's Scott Stanford:

The match began innocently enough. Taker's entrance was epic...and long. Even fans poked fun at the introduction's run time. Bleacher Report's Amber Lee and YouTube personality Tubby Emu chimed in:

Once Taker finally arrived, quite honestly, the action wasn't anything to write home about. The two men were predictably slow, and the fans seemed to be yawning through what was a down moment of an otherwise solid pay-per-view.

Like almost everyone in the WWE universe, Scott Burress of Operation Sports was a bit hasty with this mid-match tweet:

Lesnar powerbombed his way out of two attempts to make him submit via Hell's Gate. He kicked out of the Tombstone Piledriver and survived a rather poorly executed Last Ride.

Even with all of those events, most fans were still just waiting on the moment when Taker would win the match.

It never came.

Lesnar's first two F5 maneuvers didn't finish the job. But the third one gave Lesnar the clean win.

Without a doubt, Lesnar will forever draw the ire of purists and hardcore Undertaker fans.

This is inconsequential to the WWE.

Why?

Because Lesnar is of more use to the company as a heel anyway. His greatest value is as a formidable and beastly dude who is to be feared by all.

After this win, that persona is all the more believable.

This was the ultimate example of putting someone over in their role. Lesnar doesn't have to ever win another big match in his life. His WWE legacy is beyond secure.

As the reality of this event from a fantasy world set in, members of the WWE community shared their opinions. YouTube personality Wyza Now talked about whom he would have rather seen break the streak:

Dameon Nelson of the Pro Wrestling Report was pleased with the swerve.ย

Jim Ross thinks this win is the jump-off point for even bigger things for Lesnar moving forward.

As much of a fan of Taker as one might be, there's no doubt the WWE came through with an ending that was anything but predictable. At the end of the day, fans should appreciate matches they can't predict from beginning to end.

The streak needed to end at some point. Perhaps picking the right guy to end it was the toughest part of the process

Was Lesnar the man to do it? The answer to that depends on who you ask.

The WWE paid homage to the WrestleMania legend with this tweet:ย

Love it or hate it, this will go down as one of the most memorable matches in WWE history.

Follow me. I go back like Bam Bam Bigelow and Dr. Death Steve Williams
