Women’s Super-G

The Americans haven’t had too much luck when it comes to skiing events in the games so far, but they’ll have another shot at redemption in the women’s Super-G event.
Julia Mancuso raised some eyebrows stateside when she brought home a bronze medal in the women’s super-combined to earn the USA’s first Alpine skiing medal of the Sochi games.
She won her fourth medal in the three games she competed in and is trying to match Bode Miller’s American record of five medals for a skier.
“I skied my heart out,” Mancuso told The New York Daily News’ Nathaniel Vinton. “That was really tough. It was a really, really difficult slalom run. I knew I just had to give my best shot. It sure didn’t feel good.”
Germany’s Maria Hoefl-Riesch took the gold in the event ahead of Mancuso, and she should be a contender in the Super-G as well.
But Mancuso should still be a contender to watch in this one, even if the Americans’ strongest ski events won’t happen until later.
Ski Jumping, Large Hill

The ski jump competition continues on Day 8 with the large hill version of the event, and it should be an interesting one to watch.
Poland’s Kamil Stoch will be trying to continue his success at the games after earning the gold medal in the normal hill competition.
However, he’s had to face some injury issues as he’s prepared for the event, as Rosa Khutor of Reuters explains.
"Polish Olympic champion ski jumper Kamil Stoch shrugged off an elbow injury suffered in a fall on the Sochi Games large hill and landed a big training jump on Thursday.
Stoch twisted his left elbow after he landed badly during training for the large hill on Wednesday, raising questions as to whether he would jump in Thursday's practice.
Stoch seemed to have few problems though and leapt 136 meters in the first training round, the second longest jump of the session.
"
He’ll be facing some stiff competition in the form of athletes like Switzerland’s Simon Ammann—the event’s defending champion and a four-time gold medalist—but he still has an excellent chance to take this event as well.
Whether it’s Mancuso’s pursuit of Miller’s record or Stoch’s quest to add another medal to his haul, Day 8 will be one worth watching.
As always, prime time should be compelling, no matter who’s competing.
