KENTA, Prince Devitt and Latest WWE NXT Developmental News
WWE NXT is set to thrill fans of Japanese wrestling with the possible additions of KENTA and Prince Devitt.
Neither is a lock to join the developmental system, but WWE is showing interest in both men. Each wrestler is captivating in their own way, one an athletic dynamo and one a swift, skilled kicker of heads.
Other NXT news surrounds WWE re-signing a prospect, a Diva making her way back on screen and a second-generation star returning from injury. In a week that saw NXTer Alexander Rusev debut at the Royal Rumble, anxious eyes point at two international stars possibly debuted for WWE.
Prince Devitt in Talks with WWE
1 of 5Japan Pro Wrestling star Prince Devitt appears close to signing with WWE. After earlier reports of the company taking an interest in the high-flyer, more info is coming out.
PWInsider, via WrestlingInc.com, reported the following:
"WWE officials continue to negotiate with international star Prince Devitt. Word that he must make a decision very soon on whether or not he will accept the contract WWE has offered.
"
Devitt, like Sami Zayn, is a thrilling in-ring performer and would immediately be an asset to the company.
WWE offers the biggest stage of the wrestling world, but there's always the fear of possibly being mishandled by the booking team. Devitt has to consider those factors, and the dollar signs on the check when making this choice.
Prospect Re-Signs
2 of 5Last year, it looked as if Jody Kristofferson's WWE aspirations had no legs. The company released the NXT prospect last August, per WrestlingInc.com.
Kristofferson, who wrestled as Garrett Dylan, "is now back training at the Performance Center in Orlando," per Wrestling Observer, via WrestlingInc.com. The powerful wrestler appears to be getting a second opportunity at impressing WWE officials.
In the months since his release, WWE has signed a number of highly talented prospects, so Kristofferson's competition is stiffer than ever.
Raquel Diaz on Her Way Back to TV
3 of 5Raquel Diaz noted on Twitter that she is set to begin working NXT TV tapings beginning on Jan. 30.
"She has been working non-televised NXT live events since returning to WWE a few months ago," WrestlingInc.com reports.
With Emma appearing in the crowd in Raw as a likely precursor to her actual in-ring debut and rumors circulating that Paige is headed for the main roster soon, the NXT Divas division is going to need some wrestlers to step up.
Diaz will be in a mix that included Sasha Banks, Summer Rae and Bayley. She'll add theatrics and intensity to the division, looking to make an impact as she did when Florida Championship Wrestling was the developmental system.
Charlotte Back in Action
4 of 5After recovering from a minor surgery, Charlotte is back. WrestlingInc.com reports that "Charlotte wrestled her first match in several months at last night's NXT live event in Sebring, Florida, against Bayley."
The Diva prospect has shown promise as a member of the BFFs alongside Sasha Banks and Summer Rae. Her return completes the trio and allows her to jump right back into her development.
She's seemingly growing in confidence in the ring and will get more opportunities to continue that growth now that she's back at full strength.
KENTA Gets Tryout at WWE Performance Center
5 of 5WWE's search for the next big star had officials watching one of Japan's most exciting wrestlers in person.
As reported byWrestlingInc.com, "Pro Wrestling Noah star KENTA was at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando on Monday, working out in the ring. Word is that he was brought in for a tryout this week and that William Regal suggested WWE look at him."
WWE fans are already familiar with KENTA's move set, as CM Punk uses his Go 2 Sleep and Daniel Bryan finishes off matches with his high running knee.
The master of head kicks is an intriguing prospect who works an incredibly stiff style. It's hard to imagine the former GHC heavyweight champ pulling back the power of his kicks as that's such a pivotal part of his repertoire.
He's immensely talented though, as evidenced by the array of classic matches in his career including a hard-fought bout against Bryan in 2006.
A tryout at the Performance Center is no guarantee of a contract, though, as fans of Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards can attest.
