5 Managers Who Could Replace Andre Villas-Boas at Tottenham

Ryan BaileyNov 27, 2013

According to a report splashed by The Guardian on Tuesday evening, Tottenham Hotspur may soon be looking for someone else to crouch on the sidelines in an expensive suit.

Following Spurs' 6-0 rout at Eastlands on Sunday, a lack of goals and a perceived inability to correctly integrate and instruct the club's £110 million worth of new talent, Andre Villas-Boas could be the next Premier League managerial casualty.

Should the reports of dissatisfaction among the board be true, here are five men who could step into the role.

Michael Laudrup

According to bookmakers Paddy Power, Stan James and Betvictor, the most likely man to fill AVB's boot at White Hart Lane is Swansea boss Michael Laudrup.

It is easy to see the Dane's appeal: In his first season in charge with at the Liberty Stadium, the former Brondby coach maintained the attractive style of play outlaid by predecessor Brendan Rodgers and established the Swans as Premier League mainstays. What's more, he won the League Cup and made one of the best-value top-flight signings of all time, stealing Michu from Rayo Vallecano for only £2 million.

The Daily Mail reported in the summer that Laudrup could leave Swansea due to a fallout over transfers with the chairman, but the relationship was later repaired when signings were made. However, the appeal of joining a club with Champions League aspirations could turn the head of a man who might wish for a vehicle to relive the European highs of his playing career.

Glenn Hoddle

He may have been sacked from the manager's seat in 2003 after leaving Spurs in the relegation zone, but Glenn Hoddle will forever be adored at White Hart Lane for what he did on the pitch in the late '70s and early '80s.

The former England boss hasn't managed since he was dismissed by Wolves in 2006 and has since been focusing his energies on running his football academy in southern Spain.

The 56-year-old has brought himself back into the conversation, however, by sledging the current efforts of the team. He told Sky Sports they were "predictable" after the City defeat and told talkSPORT they needed "more creativity" in October.

Despite his absence from the game, Hoddle is currently second favourite for the role with the bookies.

Jurgen Klinsmann

3 of 5

Much like Hoddle, Klinsmann was adored during his playing days at the Lane, and the German has forged a successful managerial career.

Klinsi is currently ranked third among the managers proverbially circling like vultures over North London, and sources such as The Daily Mail believe he is "top of Tottenham's list" of replacements.

However, the World Cup winner is currently heading up the U.S. national team and will surely not have any interest in leaving that setup before next summer's tournament.

He has also kept a home in California for many years—even commuting to Germany while he was coach of Die Mannschaft—and may need some persuading to leave his adopted homeland for England.

If AVB survives the season, Klinsmann is a genuine contender. If not, his chances seem very slim.

Roberto Mancini

Roberto Mancini's Galatasaray side is currently nine points off the Turkish Super Lig pace being set by Fenerbahce and facing a very difficult path to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Judging by the short odds the bookmakers are currently giving him (8-1 with Betvictor, compared to 6-1 for favourite Laudrup), a return to the Premier League might just be on the cards.

Roberto Di Matteo

Also among the favourites for the job is Roberto Di Matteo, who has remained unemployed since his controversial sacking from Chelsea in November 2012.

The Swiss-born Italian has a decent record as a manager and may just be the ideal understated presence to bring coherence to the Spurs squad.

However, his current remuneration arrangement with Chelsea gives him little incentive to take another job: He is set to pocket £130,000 a week until next June unless he finds employment elsewhere, according to the Guardian.

Tottenham would also find stiff opposition from their London rivals Fulham, who are thought to be including Di Matteo in their shortlist as a potential replacement for Martin Jol, according to the Daily Mail

Who else would be a candidate for the Tottenham job? Gianfranco Zola? Jurgen Klopp? Marcelo Bielsa? Harry Redknapp?! Gibe your opinion int he comments.
