Matchday 5 of UEFA Champions League got off to an exciting start with some interesting results on Tuesday.
Each club entered the day with only two more matches remaining to move up in their group standings. While some squads had already clinched a spot in the knockout stage, there was a lot up for grabs this week.
Things were supposed to be close to settled after the latest round of action, but a few intriguing finishes kept things interesting for the final matchday next month.

Every match had its share of action, but here is a look at the most surprising results from Tuesday, Nov. 26.
Ajax Amsterdam 2, Barcelona 1
Fans at Amsterdam Arena were hoping for the best but likely expecting the worst against a relatively full lineup on Barcelona. With Neymar, Cesc Fabregas, Andres Iniesta, Xavi and others on the attack, the squad usually scores enough to come out victorious.
However, Ajax did a good job limiting the offense, allowing Barcelona to only get two shots on net the entire match. The only score for the road team came on a penalty shot after Neymar was fouled in the box.
On the other hand, Ajax Amsterdam had an easier time in the final third. Thulani Serero scored the first goal of the match in the 19th minute, and the club added to the lead with a Danny Hoesen score shortly before halftime.
This was quite an impressive win for the Dutch squad considering Barca's recent success, as noted by ESPN's Paul Carr:
Barcelona remains in first place in the group, but these two clubs and AC Milan will have a tough battle for two spots in the next round.
FC Basel 1, Chelsea 0
For the majority of the match, Chelsea found a way to keep FC Basel off the scoresheet. Unfortunately, they could not hold on for all 90 minutes.
Mohamed Salah broke the scoreless tie in the 87th minute on an assist by Fabian Schar. Of course, Basel were close a number of times before this point, taking 15 shots with seven of them going on net. Meanwhile, Chelsea barely got a clean look at the net all match.
Despite the loss, the Blues fortunately still clinched a spot in the Round of 16 after the day's events. Schalke 04 only earned one point in a draw against Steaua Bucuresti, and the German club now has to face Basel in the last match.
No matter what happens in Matchday 6, Chelsea will have enough points to at least earn second place in Group E. Although this was hardly an impressive showing, the 2012 Champions League winners will have a chance to go deep yet again.
Borussia Dortmund 3, Napoli 1
Considering Borussia Dortmund went to the UCL finals a year ago and are top competitors in Bundesliga, a home victory in this match is far from shocking. However, this represents one of the biggest wins of the day.
Dortmund showed great efficiency in the final third to earn goals from Jakub Blaszczykowski, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Marco Reus while the defense held Napoli to just one score despite the road team holding possession for 57 percent of the match.
This not only allowed them to catch up in the standings after entering the day three points back, but the result puts them ahead of Napoli in the table thanks to goal differential.
All Borussia Dortmund needs to do in Matchday 6 now is earn a win over the 0-5 Marseille or simply match Napoli's result in order to advance. This is quite a disappointing result for the Italian club that came into the year with such high expectations.
