What Will It Take for the Luis Suarez Rumours to Stop?

John RichardsonJun 3, 2018

The biannual blitz of media coverage we fondly refer to as the transfer window will undoubtedly draw keen attention to the status of Luis Suarez at Liverpool. Since his return from a 10-match ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic, the Uruguayan has been nothing short of sensational. He has carved out nine goals in seven matches, and the pick of the bunch came in this weekend's thrilling Merseyside derby.

Despite the overall optimism surrounding the club, there remains a feeling of uneasiness over what the future holds for Suarez. His volatile temperament gives the impression that he is happy one day and out the door the next.

So, what can be done to ensure that Liverpool's most vital puzzle piece is still a Red come February?

Maintain Top 4 Position

Few things in this world matter more than Champions League football, and this certainly holds true for Liverpool FC.

A club with such a rich history needs to be playing against the world's elite week-in-week-out, but this hasn't been the case for the past four years.

Luis Suarez has repeatedly expressed his desire to play at the top level, so it is essential that Liverpool are in a position to provide that come January 31st.

The Reds are currently clinging on to second place in the league table with the gap between them and 7th just three points.

The next two months will be a true test of their mettle and one that could potentially decide the future path of the club.

Avoid Controversy

Luis Suarez has been a mainstay in the English press since his controversial flareups with Patrice Evra and Branislav Ivanovic.

He is widely referred to as a racist and a cheat, a title that he denies, and hopes to erase with his performances on the pitch.

The Uruguayan must prove to the supporters and Brendan Rodgers that he can handle the adversity that comes with playing in the Premier League. He can ill afford another slip up of that magnitude if he intends to remain on Merseyside.

Good Form

If you take away the naysayers and all the media negativity, Suarez looks like a striker who is loving his football. The one that thing nobody can take away from him is his quality on the ball and sheer passion for the game.

Suarez has struck up an irresistible partnership with Daniel Sturridge this term and will not want to jeopardize his chances of making the plane to Brazil with the 2014 FIFA World Cup less than seven months away.

A move midway through the season may seem like a good decision, but we've seen on countless occasions the demise of players (namely Michael Owen and Fernando Torres) in their lives after Liverpool.
