Best Ways to Use Kane as WWE's Director of Operations

Sharon GlencrossJun 8, 2018

After several months off to film the upcoming horror sequel, See No Evil 2, Glenn “Kane” Jacobs is back—and he’s been given a drastic image overhaul.

His trademark mask is gone, handed over to Stephanie McMahon as a sign of the monster's new loyalty to The Authority.

The Big Red Machine now comes out dressed in a boring-looking suit and tie, and he has just been announced as WWE’s new Director of Operations as Triple H continues with his corporate overhaul of the company.

Director of Operations seems to be a strange role for a man once famous for kidnapping and torturing people on live television.

But, of course, that’s likely meant to be part of the fun.

On future editions of Raw, we’ll no doubt see skits during which the newly empowered executive lurks around the offices of Titan Towers and scares employees into worker harder. Think of it as Office Space 2: Shock and Terror.

Seriously, would you want to annoy a boss who had a long and frightening history of psychopathic behaviour? "Better make sure you file that report on time...or else!"

So, there is without question plenty of comedic potential with corporate Kane and Jacobs is too talented an actor not to make the most of the opportunities for humor that the writing team will give him.

What about the wrestling aspect of things, though? How will the new Kane impact that?

Well, at present, a Kane/Big Show showdown seems like one potential option when Big Show wraps up his feud with Randy Orton in a few months.

However, considering the two haven't exactly had great matches in the past, WWE may be smart to avoid this feud. It's not like fans are clamouring to see Kane/Big Show anyway.

There's another, better option.

Daniel Bryan does have lingering issues with The Authority and it wouldn’t be too surprising to see the former friends square off in a match.

Bryan is justifiably considered one of the best wrestlers on the planet right now and could carry Kane to some of the best bouts of his career. Who knows? Dr. Shelby could even return to programming in an attempt to play peacemaker between his former students.

Of course, no matter what the company scripts for the behemoth, it may also be time to accept that, having been with WWE for almost 20 years now, he's pretty much done everything he can. It might be time for the company to give some new guy a chance.

Can you imagine if WWE put Ryback or Big E. Langston in this role instead?

Even this new corporate character, while a refreshing change, is only temporarily adding new life to a stale act.

Still, the company should attempt to make the most of Kaneespecially now that he has a new gimmick.

Ideally, though, he should remain in the midcard because the 46-year-old doesn't have much to offer the main event sceneparticularly with younger guys like Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose trying to break through and garner spots.
