Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund Struggle to Score
In a match littered with star talent, Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund combined to score one goal during a 1-0 victory for the Gunners.
The day's biggest match featured Olivier Giroud and Robert Lewandowski, among others, setting the bar high for a highly entertaining bout between two dynamic attacks. Yet the two powerhouses entered halftime stuck in a scoreless draw.
That changed when Aaron Ramsey broke the tie with a goal at the 62nd minute, providing the matchup's only scoring. Arsenal's Twitter page captured a photo of Ramsey watching his winner sail toward the net:
Considered a disappointment heading into 2013, the 22-year-old has stepped up his game masterfully for Arsenal this season. BBC Sporf shows just how much the young midfielder has improved:
The win keeps Arsenal even with Napoli, who also won on Wednesday, at nine points. Including all levels of competition, the Gunners have not lost during their last 15 road matches.
Lionel Messi Gets His Groove Back
Heading into Wednesday, Lionel Messi had not logged a goal through his last four games, the largest slump of the star's career.
He ended that rough patch in style, tallying two scores in Barcelona's 3-1 victory over A.C. Milan, guiding his squad to the knockout round:
The 26-year-old Argentine delivered one goal in the first half and one during the second to put the match out of reach. Sergio Busquets also added a score during Barca's victory.
Messi has now gone from hearing murmurs of his demise to chasing a Champions League record for goals. He upped his total to 65 on Wednesday to close in on Raul's record, per ESPN's Paul Carr:
After the win, Barcelona enhanced their Group H lead by five points over Milan, boosting their total to 10. They can wrap up the grouping by defeating Ajax in their next match on Nov. 26.
