If Liverpool Players Were on X-Factor, What Would They Sing?

John RobertsonOct 28, 2013

The X-Factor is in full swing, and Liverpool's season is well under way, so why not combine the two and ride the wave of popular culture?

Over the next seven slides, you'll get a personal take on which song would best suit certain key members of the Liverpool 2013/14 squad if they were to undertake an X-Factor audition.

The selections have been made based on playing style, recent news stories and/or a player's perceived outlook on Liverpool Football Club.

Relax and enjoy the show.

Jordan Henderson

"I Just Wanna Run" by The Downtown Fiction

Following Sir Alex Ferguson's comments on Jordan Henderson's running style in the former Manchester United manager's autobiography, per the Metro, is there a better song of defiance for Liverpool's midfielder?

In all seriousness, though, Henderson has been performing admirably for the Reds so far this season. One of his strengths has actually been his work rate and high fitness levels—meaning there's rarely a moment in which the midfielder looks tired.

Daniel Sturridge

"The One That Got Away" by Katy Perry

With eight goals in nine Premier League games so far this term, Chelsea fans could well see Daniel Sturridge as the one that got away.

Overall, Sturridge managed just 13 goals in 63 appearances for Chelsea. At Liverpool, he has netted 18 times in 23 games since he switched clubs in January 2013. So far, Chelsea's forwards have two goals between them in the Premier League this season.

It all goes to show that to reach your potential you must have the right elements around you and must be allowed to play in a way that suits your abilities.

Brendan Rodgers

"My Way" by Frank Sinatra

There's no doubting that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has the conviction to instil the kind of football he wants to see his team play.

At present, the team take to the field in a 3-5-2 formation—a tactical setup incredibly unpopular in England, but the norm in Italy. It doesn't seem to enter into Rodgers' thinking to simply copy what looks to be working for other teams for the sake of staying fashionable (other managers could learn from that approach).

Furthermore, his firm handling of Luis Suarez's attempts to move away from the Anfield club this summer demonstrated that Rodgers is not prepared to bend to the will of his players.

The jury is out as to whether he can string a lyric together with as much class as he can a team of 11.

Lucas Leiva

"Wrecking Ball" by Miley Cyrus

With four yellow cards in seven appearances, no player in the Premier League has picked up more bookings than Liverpool's Brazilian midfield enforcer.

It comes as little surprise that when Lucas is not on the field, Liverpool seem to lack a physical edge. Teams like Newcastle have shown that it's possible to out-muscle Gerrard and Henderson, using that advantage up the middle to create scoring chances.

Liverpool will need Lucas to stay consistently fit if they're going to push for a top-four finish this term.

Luis Suarez

"Don't Bite Your Friends" by Yo Gabba Gabba!

Luis Suarez is a great player; there's no doubting that. However, he does have a few problems.

It's possible that Suarez still bites because he's still teething, in which case the Yo Gabba Gabba! crew's song is perfect for him.

Perhaps Suarez could help nullify his taste for human flesh by singing and understand a song aimed at five-year-olds and performed by the rejects of Sesame Street.

Steven Gerrard

"You'll Never Walk Alone" by Gerry & The Pacemakers

Seriously, is there another song Gerrard would even think of singing? Is there another song Liverpool fans would want to hear him sing?

...if fans want to hear him sing at all, of course.

The heart and soul of the team for the past 10 years, Gerrard is just as synonymous with Liverpool as the club's famous anthem.

This season has already seen the captain score his 100th club goal and record his 450th appearance for Liverpool. With his performances this season being of surprisingly high quality given his 33 years, there's no telling how many more milestones the club's talisman can hit.
