Predicting 2013 Traditional Survivor Series Matches Heading into Hell in a Cell

Ryan DilbertJun 8, 2018

After the flames of Hell in a Cell 2013 dwindle, alliances will soon form and hatred, old and new, will intensify, leading to some intriguing traditional Survivor Series tag team matches.

The timing is right for WWE to have its stables and teams collide. The current storylines and ones teased at for the future make for ideal fare for these elimination bouts.

Survivor Series was once built around five-on-five or four-on-four elimination tag team matches, giving us such memorable alliances as The Ultimate Warrior, Kerry Von Erich and The Legion of Doom. Today, that is less true, but we can expect at least one traditional Survivor Series tag match.

The 2012 edition of the pay-per-view gave us two such bouts, 2010 and 2011's version only had one each and 2008 and 2009 delivered three elimination tag matches.

That comes out to an average of two a year during the PG Era's Survivor Series pay-per-views.

Scanning WWE's feuds, both burgeoning and long-running, there are two options for four-on-four matches that would be heavy on both star power and animosity. Leaving the clever team-naming up to the reader, let's look at one of those clashes which is a merging of two rivalries.

The Wyatt Family and Kane vs. The Miz, Kofi Kingston, Cody Rhodes and Goldust

Should the Rhodes brothers defeat The Shield once more, look for them to move on to new foes. They clashed with Erick Rowan and Luke Harper on the Oct. 11 SmackDown, handing them their first WWE loss.

It's easy to imagine those bearded brutes coming after them in search of redemption and to witness the champs suffer.

The Miz and Kingston would join forces with the Rhodes boys without hesitation after Bray Wyatt has stalked and attacked them both in recent weeks. A Wyatt vs. Miz match appears to be on the horizon, but it makes more sense to save that for TLC 2013 and have the entire family get in on the fun during Survivor Series.

That family might be one man larger thanks to a returning Kane.

Wyatt's initial WWE feud was against Kane, who he perpetually tried to convince to "follow the buzzards." There has been no word on where the Wyatt Family took Kane after SummerSlam. Perhaps they've been brainwashing him in some backwoods cabin.

The cult-like feel of this group would be heavily amplified by pulling in Kane.

This elimination match could be the first major showcase of Wyatt's newest "brother." Here is a story of good versus evil and sanity versus madness that would be a thrill to watch.

Big Show, Daniel Bryan, Dolph Ziggler and CM Punk vs. The Shield and Randy Orton

Whoever leaves the American Airlines Arena on Sunday with the WWE Championship may move right to the Survivor Series main event as a singles competitor. Then again, John Cena may be world champ and could handle that duty while WWE continues its rebels versus authority storyline.

Big Show and Bryan ended Monday's Raw celebrating atop a big rig together.

Bryan was once Big Show's punching bag, but the giant has since made himself "The World's Largest Ally." Add Ziggler, who was involved earlier in this storyline as someone who spoke out against Triple H's actions, and Punk, who is always looking for a fight, and you have an imposing team capable of stopping the best "The Authority" can put together.

Punk may be done with his feud with Paul Heyman by then, letting Big E Langston be Ryback and Curtis Axel's next rival.

He could join the other babyfaces against Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose and Orton after saying that his lust for revenge has blinded him to all the injustice going on. For Ziggler, the beatdowns he's suffered from Ambrose and the rest of The Shield will be more than sufficient inspiration to join this fight.

To up the stakes for this elimination tag match, several things could be on the line.

Big Show could earn his job back should his team win here, a shot at the WWE title for either Orton or Bryan and Triple H's position with the company could all be up for grabs. It wouldn't be on the level of drama that was Team Alliance vs. Team WWF, but there is plenty to work with here to create a compelling story.

What happens at Hell in a Cell will paint a clearer picture of what Survivor Series looks like, but WWE already has two excellent traditional elimination tag matches at the ready.

There are years when red-hot singles feuds will have WWE opt for less of these matches, but with the groups at each other's throats at the moment, the company has an opportunity to make compiling Survivor Series teams a natural and exciting process.
