Analyzing Cristiano Ronaldo's Performance vs. Copenhagen

Tim KeeneyOct 2, 2013

If there's anything negative to say about Cristiano Ronaldo's performance on Wednesday, it's that his 2013 UEFA Champions League goals-per-match average took a nosedive.

After notching a hat trick against Galatasaray in Real Madrid's UCL opener last week, C-Ron was only able to tally two goals in a 4-0 win over FC Copenhagen, dropping his average down to 2.5 per match.

What's the deal? I thought this guy was supposed to be good?

In all seriousness, Ronaldo's explosive start has been out of this world, as he has scored five times and assisted once, leading Los Blancos to six early points and a commanding lead in Group B.

Perhaps the most impressive part of Ronaldo's five goals in two matches—you know, besides the fact that he has scored five goals in two Champions League matches—is the versatility in which he has accomplished the feat.

Against Galatasaray, his first two goals were of the janitorial-clean-up-the-garbage-in-front-of-goal variety (don't take that the wrong way, positioning is undoubtedly a skill), while his third was a piece of sublime individual magic

But on Wednesday, CR7 showed his prowess in the air.

In the 21st minute, the Portuguese international freed himself near the far post, where Marcelo found him to nod it into the open net:

After a few near-misses, a lovely buildup from Madrid in the second half eventually resulted in Angel di Maria receiving the ball on the right side of the box. From there, he played in a gorgeous rabona to Ronaldo, who out-leaped his defender and slammed home another header to double the lead:

In the end, Ronaldo, according to WhoScored.com finished with seven shots, four key passes and an 85 percent pass completion in the all-around performance.

Also, as he tends to do just about every week now, he entered the record books, tying Lionel Messi and Raul for most braces in Champions League history, per Opta Sports:

As the same Twitter feed pointed out, "en fuego" doesn't even begin to describe Ronaldo right now:

Enjoy the show, folks. You're witnessing history.
