Sometimes Goodbye Is a Second Chance: Ric Flair Will Really NEVER Retire
"I will NEVER retire!”
Those words still ring like bells going off in a cathedral church in the minds of wrestling fans. They are words of none other than the 16-Time World Champion Ric Flair. While they were a part of a storyline the WWE was doing, they seem to be true to life.
Ric Flair will never really retire. He will always be in the wrestling business in some way. The fact is Flair cannot help it. He is addicted to wrestling.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
While some are at home with their wives (or mistresses), or drinking shots of Patron while relaxing on their own personal island, Ric Flair goes out and gets into a ring. It is not that he feels he has to do; it not that he feels that people want him to do it.
He does it for himself, and while that may be selfish in some people’s minds, it isn’t to me.
When a person has a chance to live out their dream, and they finally reach it, then why break it up?
While Flair has been around for many, many years—and he reached his dream a long time ago—when he finally got there, he didn’t want to leave. Who would want to give up on their dreams? I know I wouldn’t, and neither should you, no matter who tells you it will never happen.
Basically if you say Flair is selfish, you are saying all people living their dreams are selfish. Because that is all he’s doing.
Flair is not asking to be in the main event, he is not asking to be World Champion, nor to even win any title whatsoever in the WWE.
He just wants to be there and live his dream.
At Judgment Day this past Sunday, you saw Flair make his way back to the WWE after a long absence. He came out to aid his good friend Batista against Legacy.
Then on RAW, we saw Flair aid Batista again. He brought out his bag of tricks to ensure the match didn’t get out of hand.
Big Show made his way down to the ring to disrupt the match, then Flair came out with a steel chair and threw it to John Cena to take out the big man.
Then, he knocked Cody Rhodes off the top turnbuckle so that Batista could get the win.
Personally, I thought was all pretty cool to see Flair back doing the old things we loved him for. And judging by the reception he got from the WWE audience, they loved Flair being there, too.
The fact is that everyone seems to love Flair; well, at least more people do than don’t. And I feel that Flair should stick around. We all know he wants to, so why not let him?
Flair is arguably the best of all time. Fans love to see him. Period.
Word now is that Flair wants to come back full time, not as much wrestling, but maybe managing or GM work. He texted Vince McMahon and told him that he wants to come back; you have to think that Vince is considering it.
Historically, ratings have gone up on a few occasions: one is when Vince or another McMahon is on the show, another is when DX is on the show, the other is when Flair is doing something.
So that would mean that Vince probably will let him come back more often. We know that he will be on RAW next week. But I think we will see him even more in the future.
Flair said after he retired from the WWE that he would love to stay, but he knows that he has to go if Vince and the WWE do not want him.
He said he would never come back unless it was ok with both Vince and Shawn Michaels, who retired Flair at Wrestlemania 24 by hitting the Sweet Chin Music on him and pinning him in a career threatening match.
I think Vince would be ok with it; of course, as long as it is good for business, why not? But HBK will be the key in all of this, I think. I am sure he will be ok with seeing Flair back, as they are friends in real life, not just story-lined.
I feel that Flair loves the wrestling world so much that he will still do something in it as long as he can move.
After he left the WWE, he worked for them doing other things within the company. He then was let go from that position. After that he went to Ring of Honor, where he is an Ambassador.
Since he will still do something in wrestling no matter what, why not let him do it in the WWE?
It is not like he will want to leave out of nowhere. He was basically forced out last time; he really didn’t want to retire.
While I do think he has lost steps in the ring, he can still work the mic with the best of them, and do some of the old tricks we know him for, like we saw on RAW.
So that could be his role in the company.
Stephanie McMahon called Flair up and asked him if he wanted to be the SmackDown! GM.
He was actually over booked and unable to do it, as he was doing things with ROH at the time, and taking care of his son, Reid.
Now that he is done with ROH’s tapings and/or can work around things with them, he can appear in the WWE more often. And he said he son is doing better.
If fans want to see him, if he can still serve a good role, and if he can do some of the things we love him for, then why not let him come back?
There is a song out called, “Second Chance,” by ShineDown. You can see a video of their performance of the song here: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=42330261
When I heard this song, I automatically loved it. It was rock, it had a good beat, and the group is awesome to begin with.
But then the words, “sometimes goodbye is a second chance” came up. I didn’t really understand what they meant at the time. But the more I thought about it, I got my own interpretation of it.
Flair said goodbye to the WWE, not because he wanted to, but because he thought that he had to. He loves the fans so much, and loves being around wrestling, it’s his life.
When he said goodbye to the fans, it was emotional of course. The reason why was not only was he leaving the fans, he was basically giving up his dream.
A dream that took him so long to be able to realize, then he became the best in the business in.
But to me, Flair leaving was the best thing for him.
He found a new love for wrestling, and knew he couldn’t live without it. And the WWE found out that Flair will do anything to be in the business and can now rely on him even more than before.
So, his Goodbye actually became his second chance with the WWE.
This is why obviously Ric Flair will never retire, and we will need to get used to seeing him more and more in the wrestling world. Whether it is with the WWE or somewhere else.
